Depends on whether Hartnell goes into hiding for the next few days.

I wonder how hextall guilted/coerced him into waiving for CLB?

just cause he couldn't beat out Jared Boll for 4th line minutes doesn't mean ...

wait I think you have me on this one

I think it was a good time to move on from Hartnell.
Could they have made a better trade? Probably but who knows.

I am OK with it.

Feel bad for MOAT, I know he loved Hartsy.

- Marc D

I dont see how they couldn't have done better. Personally, I would have just walked away from this deal if this was the best available for Hartnell.

I'm wondering if Carter kept it and named it 'The Hideout'.

Im sorry but this is bullpoop, "a product of the line he was on" no he was on multiple line conbinations and a player every team needs when he's on his game. A guy that goes to the dirty areas of the ice and gets the geeasy goals, agitates the other team and throws down if need be. I think a lot of you guys who dont like him focus too much in the weaker areas of his game as if every player doesnt have those.

What does it say about Hartnell's contract, and what does it say about the Flyers that they just traded a player who they have played on their top line for the last few years, for a player making the same money who was scratched in the playoffs?
- PLindbergh31

The possibilities:

1.) Hextall knows something about Hartnell that we don't.
2.) This was a pure (long term) salary dump.
3.) Hextall believes that Hartnell was going to degrade faster than an cut open avocado on the counter and wanted to dump him, no matter what.

I went to Youtube Umberger. The top 5 videos have 4 of him getting laid out by Brian Campbell and another one feature famed diver Rene Umberger.

I don't know, honestly. I think it could mean a bunch of different things. Maybe it was about getting out of two extra years on Hartnell's contract. Maybe it was about reducing the PIMs and/or adding more of a two way winger. Maybe it's about foreseeing a decline for Hartnell vs. a possible turn around for Umberger. I don't know what Hextall's thinking is on this.

I'm sad to see Hartnell go, he was one of my faves. I honestly don't know how to judge this trade right now.

Joe, he was great with Leino and Briere, and with Carter and Lupul, and with Jagr and G.

Those years are gone.

He's not an effective #1 LW for the system they are using. He lost his spot to Raffl for cripes sake.

I love Hartnell and all he did for the team. He was a great player and fun to watch. He's very unlikely to have 30 goal seasons anymore.

Maybe there will be some explanation in the coming days. Maybe Hartnell asked to be traded.

Comcast owns NBC.
Sheena Parveen works for NBC.

Sheena Parveen conveniently transferred to CBus in the middle of the night?

Hart ell has had his ups and downs. He is always really streaky. I liked him, but can live without him. His contract will really suck in a year or two. We'll see what his production in CBus is this year as well. There is a lot of credence to what people are saying about RJ being a little more versatile. Not the point producer Hartsy is, but I'm not going to judge Hexy on this deal alone. Let's see what else happens. If he gets rid if VL or some how lands the #1 pick, we will all be playing a different tune.
- section32

I don't even like Hartnell that much, and began to tire of his awful penalties, but he's better than Umberger. I'm not really sorry to see Hartnell go, but bringing in Umberger makes zero sense imo.

After all, he can look back and laugh now, I guess.

Per Berube,

"RJ is a versatile guy who can play all positions,” said Flyers coach Craig Berube. “He's a good penalty killer who skates well. He's a veteran who has been around a long time and knows how to play the game properly. He'll be used in a lot of different areas. I think with our team it is nice to have a real versatile guy like him."

I think the ability to play Umberger in multiple lines and multiple siutations is what they like compared to hartnell. And the bolded part seems to me like they want a different attitude on the team.

Worst Corsi on the Jackets of any player who played at least 30 games. He'll look great with VL on the 4th line.

"They may be a -36, but they each have 20 goals this year"

Not in love w/ Umberger, but I guess I'm in the minority that felt like this team couldn't move forward w/ Hartsy remaining at center-stage... and dat contract.

I'm pretty sure his utter lack of consistency is why he fell out of favor with many Flyers fans.
- hereticpride

No... his personality. He was a goof ball. It was great if he was playing well, but the minute he had a few bad games people hated him.

If you dont think being on the top offensive line year in and year out, while producing between 20-30 goals and 45-60 points consistent, then I got nothing for ya.
