So BTL say's there is 9 different scenarios with the top 4 picks...and that the Flames are ready for all of them:

1. Ekblad-Reinhart-Draisatl-Bennett
2. Ekblad-Reinhart-Bennett-Draisatl
3. Ekblad-Draisatil-Reinhart-Bennett
4. Ekblad-Draisatil-Bennett-Reinhart
5. Ekblad-Bennett-Reinhart-Draisatl
6. Ekblad-Bennett-Draisatl-Reinhart
7. ???
8. ???
9. ???

In any case, if a 5th player was thrown into it the equation (MDC or NR) there would be much more than 9 different outcomes. Unless they know something we don't which is more than likely the case

- The-O-G

There could only be 9 different outcomes if say only Edmonton has interest in NR and non of the other teams do.

Dont think this years group has nearly the same upside....
- Iggysbff

I think as far as potentials go, its pretty close. It wouldn't be outrageous for Ekblad to match Johnson, Leon to at least score a little more than J. Staal. Bennett to Toews is a stretch but they play similar and Toews probably exceeded expectations from draft day. Reinhart and Dal Colle likely won't be as good as their comparisons (especially Kessel), but anecdotally they're similar. Plus, Backstrom's made to look a bit better because of Ovi.

You mean fire the scouts? I don't know enough about Ritchie to say we shouldn't draft him at 4. There must be a good reason he's high on some teams list.

Don't worry, you'll have plenty to feel bad about in Calgary in the coming years.

I'd like to draft Sam Bennett, but I can't imagine him lifting the Cup. #35lbs #NHLDraft #flames #FlaPanthers #Sabres #oilers

No way Burkie rolls in and completely overrules everything the scouts have to say.

This fascination with size is crazy IMO. The Hawks have won a couple of Cups without size in the top 6.
- golfingsince

Jonathan Toews = 6'2" 210lbs. Marian Hossa = 6'1" 210lbs. Patrick Sharp = 6'1" 199lbs. Bryan Bickell = 6'4" 223lbs. Brandon Saad = 6'1" 202lbs. Brandon Bollig = 6'2" 223lbs. Michal Handzus 6'5" 215lbs. Ben Smith 5'11" 201lbs.

On the back end they have only three defensemen under 200lbs (Leddy 191lbs, Oduya 190lbs, and Runblad 195lbs) and not one of them is under 6 feet tall. Tell me again how the Hawks don't have size? Kane is the only player in the top 6 who you could reasonably say is small. They just don't use their size like the kings do. The kings will beat you into submission, the hawks use their size to keep the puck away and create scoring chances through puck possession. They have size, they just use it differently.

You can talk measurements all you want, but it all comes down to playing style. The hawks are a gritty, hard team. Just like the Kings, and the Bruins. Size isn't everything.

No. just implying that MANY people are filled with false hope. There's a reason why some teams continue to struggle for years, the Oilers front office has been a shambles for a few years, that NEEDS to be addressed.

Kings were the heaviest team in the league, Hawks were 16th. LA was 5th tallest, Chicago was 13th.

Edit: Washington was 3rd heaviest, Winnipeg 5th.

I will not disagree.

If Katz would grow up and hire me as president of hockey operations, maybe the Oilers wouldn't blow so much! would be instant champions!

This is one of Eakins biggest mistakes. He took donuts from our players/reporters and replaced them with fruits/vegetables. If the Oilers had more donuts to eat, they would have weighed more, and ultimately would have been a much better team. If I were in charge, we would be the biggest/fattest team in the league

Yeah but you mentioned the top 6. They're top 6 isn't small, they're defence isn't small. They are still a big team compared to half the league, it's just they play a different style of game than some other teams.

I've completed my 9 scenarios.....

1. Ekblad-Reinhart-Draisatl-Bennett
2. Ekblad-Reinhart-Bennett-Draisatl
3. Ekblad-Draisatil-Reinhart-Bennett
4. Ekblad-Draisatil-Bennett-Reinhart
5. Ekblad-Bennett-Reinhart-Draisatl
6. Ekblad-Bennett-Draisatl-Reinhart
7. Bennett-Reinhart-Ekblad-Draisatl
8. Reinhart-Bennett-Ekblad-Draisatl
9. Bennett-Ekblad-Draisatl-Reinhart

Looks like the Flames will end up with:

Draisatl x 4 (44%)
Bennett x 2 (22%)
Reinhart x 3 (33%)

I'm intellectually honest. Canucks having Gillis at the helm RUINED them. D. Sutter was a great coach, but a terrible GM, Flames HAD to get rid of him. Flames needed a culture change, had to trade Iggy. Right now the Oilers are a rudderless ship and Eakins was a disgrace last season in how he allowed his arrogance to offend the loyal fans.

I'll be honest about any team anyone wants to ask me about. Flames are praying Ramo is the answer, or they're in serious trouble as well... Having Hartley get everyone to buy in the way he did last year let the Flames look a lot better than they should have... If that can continue, things look decent, but that was just one year.

1.Ekblad
2.Reinhart
3.Bennet
4.Drasaitl
5.Dal Colle

Thats my priority list. I think that Florida trades the pick to a team that wants Ekblad in their system. (Toronto Picks #1 - Ekblad and Florida takes Gardner plus the #8 pick which they pick a forward like Nylander or maybe Richie)

I think Buffalo is then going to take Bennet.

Then Edmonton is going to take size at the C position and pick Draisatl

Flames pick Reinhart

Eakins biggest mistake was allowing his EGO to get the better of him and he found a way to alienate almost everyone in Edmonton by being an arrogant jerk.
