"WE DONT NEED LEADERSHIP YET"
You are kidding right? We haven't had a true captain on this team since Drury? Leadership on this team has been one the of the main reasons for their failures.
Please delete that statement? - Irish 14
You seem way too convinced that they can't find leadership from within. |

No , Again Mr Murray is going to leave the kids in junior and the AHL . We do not need to sign big time free agent leadership ! But maybe Mr Murray is lying about that to ! We need a leader in Rochester for the kids . Do you think Callahan would be willing to go there ? He could live at home !
Girgensons does not need a babysitter , he is a motivated kid that is already becoming a leader . He leads by example . |

19,
They have done that for years! Rotating C & A's - Roy, Vanek, Stafford, Ehrhoff, Pominville (not a captain, but solid assistant).
Many say Girgs is the future C, would you want Stafford teaching and leading the young crew? That's the problem with this team for a decade, the core of this team sucked, the CULTURE needs to change!

Just remind me . Where has Callahan lead his teams ? A flop in the olympics , a first round sweep and the team he left actually went further in the playoffs than it did with him there . Where do we sign up for that ?
How many leaders has Callahan trained ? Does he have a rep for training leaders ?
I like Callahan . The biggest point is that the timing is all wrong to bring him here. |

Good leaders have "it" from day 1. It may take a little while to develop, but make no mistake, it will develop whether a guy like Callahan comes here or not. If Girgensons really is captain material (and I think he absolutely can be), the "influence" of a Drew Stafford won't matter, because a good leader will be able to figure out what works and what doesn't. |

"Interesting" article in Toronto Star this morning. Listed among a list of buyout candidates was Tyler Myers. Article also says that Bennett looks more and more like the consensus top pick and is one of only 2 true centres at the top...the other being Leon. Says Reinhart will most likely play wing in the pros.

This is not a straight-up mock draft, though some consideration was given towards past drafting tendencies – plus trades always muck that up in the end. So without further ado, here are my top 100 draft rankings for 2014:
1. Aaron Ekblad, D, Barrie (OHL) – A surefire NHLer who, at worst, can play on a team’s second pairing for the next decade or more. Whether Florida keeps or trades the pick, other teams think Ekblad is the top prospect available.
2. Sam Bennett, C, Kingston (OHL) – The versatility of skills he brings to the table is incredible. Strong on the puck, talented and competitive, Bennett can also play wing.
3. Leon Draisaitl, C, Prince Albert (WHL) – The big, skilled playmaking center most teams need to win, Draisaitl is an Anze Kopitar kind of player.
4. Sam Reinhart, C, Kootenay (WHL) – Touted as the smartest player in the draft, Reinhart can play in all situations and has put up some serious numbers in junior.

I like both Bennett and Draisaitl myself. |

Right now Girgs is the best candidate for C imo.Kind of reminds me of a young Dustin Brown. On this team the C should be given to to a home grown product as well not someone brought in aka Callahan if Murray rolls in the direction which I personally would not. |

if the sabres sign callahan, richards, gabby, and moulson, where is this team opening night?
all those banking on a top 2 pick in 2015 will be upset in 10 months - homiedclown
If you are banking on us signing Richards and Gaborik I think you will be disappointed.
Why would they come here?
And honestly, why are we signing 30+ year olds that can't stay healthy |

They have good drugs in Toronto . This article was basically plagerized from pieces I have read in the past in other publications.

Agreed, but to say there's not a downside to him is just blatantly inaccurate. I do believe he'll end up being a good, possibly even very good NHL goaltender. I also think it's going to take him a little while longer than we all would like. - buffalofan19
Which us fine. We don't need a Ryan Miller right now. |

Not happening anyways neither are we bad enough to be in the top 3 or 4 in next years draft.Love to see the fan base forget about next years draft until at least the trade deadline this season. |

To paraphrase Murray, he said its tough to be good that quickly and his goal for next year is to be tougher to play against
Sounds like Bennett is their guy BTW |

i agree 100%. i expect the roster to be overhauled after next season. we dont need to bring a leader in on a long term deal this season. half the roster will be gone within two years. i want no part of a long term ufa contract with a no trade clause at this point. |

It's amazing how everyone Monday morning QB's the FA signing from years ago! Many here wanted Richards when July 1st hit a couple years ago, now everyone says I told you so?
Callahan is a different story as a FA, great fit for the rebuild. Discuss - Irish 14
We ha e discussed to death already.
Let's talk about Sam Bennett! |
