I guess I really don't get why the Sedins have to be a package deal?! Is it them or their agent pulling those strings? - MnGump
Both....that's how they got to Vanc. IIRC, 'Hawks GM at the time, Bob Murray helped enable that so Vanc could pick 22/33 in consecutive draft picks. I see no difference now. They stay together in Vanc, or go somewhere else together. |

I don't know, Spezza and Sharp had very similar production in the last few years (and similar injury history) with the main difference of Sharp signed to an excellent, low cap hit contract for his production at long term and Spezza is a pending UFA. With the conditional pick going back (especially if it is a 1st or 2nd) the deal is more than fair IMO. - Steven_Dean
also sharp plays a 200 ft game, and was good enough to make team Canada.
Spezza, not so much. |

LOL spezza plus picks for a player whos on the very same level perhaps lower than spezza. Intelligent trading.
Perhaps with Towes and Kane on his team Spezza can put up 110pts.
My lord.. - Seitch2
are you joking?
Sharp is on a great contract, Spezza has 1 year left. Sharp made team Canada , Spezza wasnt even invited to the camp. I think even Ottawa fans would agree that Sharp is better. He would probably be the 2nd best player on the leafs, he is that good |

Sharp straight up for Spezza makes sense since center ice is more of a coveted position. - jake24242
If these two guys are so close in skill and stats, why would the Hawks be interested in a trade in the first place? Seems like if they're virtually getting the same player in return for the one they're each giving up, the move makes little since for either side. Aside from the fact that Chicago is giving up a sound contract for a one year rental. Center position not withholding. |

Hawks need centers. They will rely on current players like Saad or Shaw to move and/or step up at wing, but they need help down the middle

"Jason Spezza, and Ottawa's 2nd and 3rd this year for Sharp + a conditional pick next year if Spezza is extended."
That trade wouldn't happen even in NHL 2014. Ottawa's getting shafted big time. Spezza is much better then Sharp. Sharp will not put up the same numbers without Kane, Keith and Toews.
Spezza for Sharp, 2nd or 3rd rounder this year and a conditional first in next years draft. |

i love that you make a point of saying it will allow them to keep sharp, and then don't even put him in the line up. |

This would be great but please be real. How would that cap work? They can barely sign back full roster without the $$ stats by will get. Would need to trade out $$ equal to anything coming in.

Didn't the Sens have Spezza on the 3rd/4th line at times this year, on the same line with Chris Kneel? |
