Only if Vancouver picks up half of Spezza's salary.

So the Rags will pay Richards $14MM spread over the next 12 years.

Guaranteed contracts need to go.

He does. also has a modified NTC. Stan hands those out like candy on Halloween.

That would take at least another lockout.

Spezza + picks for Sharp? Does Murray enjoy being fleeced?

Yeah, well, he is not the only one.
GMs overall are overbetting on players, it seems.

So Ottawa only loses Spezza, and 2nd & 3rd and get Sharp AND potentially another conditional pick is Spezza re-ups with Chicago.

DO IT NOW.

I thought it sounded bad as well. Spezza is exactly what the Hawks need. I think Spezza for Sharp straight up is fair.

Nope. Guaranteed contracts are the only thing that is going to keep owners honest.

Sens GM just said that they have two very serious offers from St.Louis and Anaheim. I don't think there is any kind of a deal in Chicago.

LOL GTFO Sharp is leaps and bounds better than Spezza, has two cups under his belt and isn't an injury machine. Really doubting Sharp would be happy at all going to Ottawa, that place is a mess, Isn't Sharp too rich for their blood? Wouldn't they rather some AHL players? That's what they seem to be doing every year besides the odd mediocre free agent aquistion
- Mushton89

Totally agree. People saying Ottawa would get fleeced in that deal are downright delusional.

I don't know, Spezza and Sharp had very similar production in the last few years (and similar injury history) with the main difference of Sharp signed to an excellent, low cap hit contract for his production at long term and Spezza is a pending UFA. With the conditional pick going back (especially if it is a 1st or 2nd) the deal is more than fair IMO.

A leafs fan trash talking another team?

The leafs are as much of a mess as the sens are right now.

In addition, I think the leafs take the cake in signing odd mediocre free agents. How has Clarkson been treating you as of lately? Oh ya, not so well. I hope you enjoy him for the next 6 years.

Bye Bye Brad. Call Bettman for an apology since he and his boys changed the rules. You will undoubtedly give some other team a huge bang for their bucks. Good luck to you.

Sharp is 33 in December.

Basically you get him for 3 years at $5.9. After that it's likely he isn't the same player.

I would do the deal based on two facts: Sharp is a great fit on Ottawa, brings a good amount of offensive output if it was a straight up package, and would be a good vet for the forward group

WOW

Can you imagine Saad-Toews-Kane on one line, Bickell-Spezza-Hossa on the other

He said two teams

Oh yeah, Sharp is leaps and bounds for sure. Tell me how Sharp is going to put up 65-75 points playing with Turris? Yeah, that's what I thought. Spezza is a career point a game player, #1C and tremendous playmaker with exceptional vision. Sharp is not better than Jason Spezza.
