So for tomorrow: Megadeath or Slayer? - BiggE
Slayer has one song better than any Megadeth song, but oh man, it's so much better. I'd probably go with Megadeth, though. |

It's OK to want Steve Ott, just as it's OK to think the player is in decline.
Neither of those are inherently right or wrong. - AllInForFlyers
I want Steve Ott. I do think he's in skillful decline. However he has other smarts he won't lose. I totally believe this player could be Max Talbot or Ian Laperriere for the team. |

I'm playing guitar at Phillysportsguy's wedding tomorrow night. He'd most likely be cool with it, but the mother and mother-in-law would most likely shoot me! |

That's totally fine; you're entitled to that opinion.
I think his decline is/will be rapid and harsh, and personally I would avoid the player

Not sure what Hartnell has in common with Ott/Talbot. Totally different player with a different skill set and different role.
Wait, we gave Pronger 7 years and he was 35 when the deal kicked in. Therefore, we should also give Ott 7 years, right? |

Hartnell was given a six year deal, two years ago on the back of a 67 point season. And it was too long then. Talkign about giving Steve Ott a five year deal is utterly ridiculous. |

Well we definitely disagree because he's not just your average grinder.
Agree of disagree 2.25 I'd be fine with for no more then 4 or 5 years.
As for my examples in price tags. Some guys make too much, some make not enough, which is mypoint. - SuperSchennBros
What does Ott do so effectively that requires a 4-5 year deal?

You're taking 2 separate arguments and trying to make them into one.
Ott and Talbot play a similar role. That is why I used their age as a reason.
Hartnell and Ott's relative age is a moot point because they plays entirely different roles. |

We're right back where we started. You're using Hartnell's deal as a reason why its ok to sign players in their 30s to long term deals. Hartnell's deal is not a favorable deal for the Flyers.
Hartnell is also a top line player. Even if he regresses, they can move him down the lineup. If Ott regresses, he's no longer a viable NHL player. |

That's a false analogy -- Hartnell's a better player.
That's like saying the Flyers should trade multiple first-round picks and players for any other 35-year-old defensemen, just because they did it for Chris Pronger |
