I'm not even sure I follow the logic -- "Yes, Scott Hartnell is a better player than Steve Ott -- by far, IMO -- but we should sign Steve Ott and overlook his flaws because he and Hartnell are the same age and play a similar style." - AllInForFlyers

I would almost think he would be looking in the 2.5 - 3 range - J35Bacher
For all of the people who were screaming that Talbot was a better fit for the 4th line than the third, you'll be thinking that Talbot was a 50-goal scorer in comparison to Ott on the 3rd line. He's a 4th liner who will want 3rd line money. |

Its so simple
All we need to do is perfect human cloning, get a few cells from Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull and we got ourselves a dynasty!
Sadly, this is what happens when I have way too much caffeine in the morning! |

You can shave about 25 goals a season off of Hull is you account for modern-day stick curve allowances. |

Bill,
Sorry if it feels like I'm shoving Steve Ott down everyone's throat which is not my intent but I do want your opinion of Steve Ott because you covered the Dallas Stars and followed him closely for quite some time. Do you think there is a fit here if the price is right? - SuperSchennBros
Yes, there's a fit. But I am leery of the price tag (even though he is coming off a so-so season). Ott is a player you stop "hating" and start appreciating when he's on your side. Good guy off the ice, too.

Just because Hartnell signed a long term deal at the same age doesn't mean the Flyers should sign Ott long term. - PhillySportsGuy
Are you even reading my posts from beginning to end? I never indicated giving Ott Scott Hartnell money for Scott Hartnell years.
If you really need a picture painted, here we go.
If the Flyers really are into in Steve Ott I would go no further then 2.25 for 4 or 5 years. You believe he expects 3 million, I think we agree he shouldn't get it (although, I think your making up your own ideas of what I think). I look at what MacDonald signed for, I think that's too much. I look at what Grossmann and Schenn have, this might be a little much for the two of them, granted all three play D. I actually feel Hartnell took a lesser hit then he could have made on the open market. Simmonds definitely took less. Simmonds gave away 7 years. |

Bam! You said it far fewer words then I did yesterday. I think Bill, Jsaq, MJL and myself have all said the same thing and we all butt heads.

I don't know what this has to do with signing Ott. I think thats the point I was making.
Also, no way I sign Ott for that kind of deal. 2 years max and under $2M. |

I have no interest in Ott, I'd rather go after Pouliot for the 3rd line LW spot. |

It's OK to want Steve Ott, just as it's OK to think the player is in decline.
Neither of those are inherently right or wrong.

FIVE YEARS!?!? What the crap is that all about? That's almost as bad as some of Winning or 2Real's ideas. |

Neither do I. To me, he's a luxury signing. I would much rather find a third line, two-way winger with speed and more of a finishing touch. Guys like Kulemin, Pouliot, etc match that description and will probably be cheaper than Ott. |

Well we definitely disagree because he's not just your average grinder.
Agree of disagree 2.25 I'd be fine with for no more then 4 or 5 years.
As for my examples in price tags. Some guys make too much, some make not enough, which is mypoint. |

I want James Neal to blow out his knee on the golf course this summer. Hopefully that is ok too!

Cheaper, younger, and likely will produce more. Although they're our "shutdown" line, Couturier and Read have offensive talent. I don't want Steve Ott dragging them down. |

I really hope Berube is serious about getting his team to stop being so undisciplined. |

And that term should not have happened, and that deal has been moved, with neither party harmed |
