Maybe, nothing says they are bonafide super stars
- Deasr1

They don't really have to be... just have to be able to keep up with superstars.

(Speaking of the Pens, TSN has a video up on their site revisiting how they tanked for Mario.)

There's the rub. When they won the Cup, Gonchar was a very useful top pairing d-man at both ends of the ice. Letang looks great in highlight videos on the PP and carrying the puck into the offensive zone, but his play in the defensive zone is average at best. At his cap hit, he can't be average in any zone.
- ravishingone

Agreed. For the hit and term he needs to be in the same league as Weber, Subban, Suter, Doughty, OEL etc. And he just isn't. If a team was in truly dire need they might find a trading partner but I dont think a single team in the league is going to so much as sniff him when he has a now well known heart issue and is signed thru 2022.

His contract(and the poor drafting in recent years) really could end up forcing them to trade Malkin if they ever want a shot building something strong around Crosby again.

Hmmmmmm tanking for 2 superstars. Hell, we couldn't even do that right once for Kane. And they did it twice for bonafide HOFers.

Would you take him as is on this team, as is?
- Deasr1

Current level of play doesn't live up to the cap hit
Has a known heart issue
Under contract until 2022

Hell no.

Is Spain supposed to be good?
- jmatchett383

55-1 in international matches going into this World Cup and won it in 2010

Their goalie and D were not as good as usual this time

I believe Karlsson and Letang are similar d-men. Both better in the offensive zone then defensive side. Karlsson is signed for $700K less and 3 years shorter and is younger by a few years. My belief is if a d-man gets signed to over $7 million/yr, he better be a rock on the defensive zone besides having offensive ability.

Letang just hasn't shown that enough on a consistent basis combined with the health issues to justify the cap hit and length.

Bill Peters also shot down the Pens. Apparently it's not just the term, it's a lot of things-stop gap GM, no say in staff, apparent micro managing by Mario and Ron Burkle.

I've got to say, it's getting tougher and tougher not seeing the Flyers win the Cup. I remember when the Kings were the laughing stock of the league. Same with Chicago and Pittsburgh for that matter. Bad teams turning it around for their fans, consistent teams like Detroit win it for their fans. When is it going to be the Flyers time? 6 straight Cup losses. I'm tired of getting the hot chick to the dance, but being completely unable to seal the deal.

I really wish Jussi would get drunk and sign a 3 year deal for 8 mill to play with Cooter. But, the guys you listed are decent look ats. Would you maybe kick the tires with Heatley for a year?
- Deasr1

i wish hed get drunk and sign a 3 year 10 million dollar deal to play with malkin.

letang on his game absolutely blows karlsson out of the water defensively. granted, its a logical question to ask how much he actually is on his game. but offensively for all his flash letang isnt in the same realm as karlsson. gets shots through at an exponentially higher rate, and has much better vision. i agree though, id trade either for a pietrangelo type.
