That franchise is a mess right now. It's amazing that coaching the best player in the world is a hard sell. But when you've got a "short term" GM in Rutherford, a million assistant GMs, an allegedly very involved CEO, and whoever else to answer to, it probs doesn't seem so attractive. Especially after they left the last guy twisting in the wind for two weeks.

Meanwhile, that GM squad has to answer for a lack of forward depth without much in the pipeline. The cap is an issue, too.

It's a weird situation. Here are two are the arguably best players in the world on a team. You either win the cup or it's all your fault? Forget that.

They've only reached the Cup twice. It's not like they get knocked off by some dynasty team either. The East has been worse than the West for a while.

Yeah, it's just another line in the sand that we can all tap dance around.

I'd even prefer arguing about Vinny, Grossmann or stats to Ott... at least those have some bearing on the team. Ott is a pipedream.

- Tomahawk

What makes Ott a pipe dream or any different then any of the other countless suggestions of player acquisitions for the Flyers, made by yourself or others? Other then salary, he's a good fit for the team. You never know what a player will play for, or what a team will pay.

Don't tell me, let me guess: Ott's leadership, checking and defensive ability aren't indicative of the -38 he posted last season -- including a whopping -12 in 23 games in St. Louis, which was one of the best defensive teams in the league -- nor are they reflected in the fact that St. Louis lost in the first round, nor are they a sign of actual player decline, but they're actually the fault of both Buffalo players and St. Louis players not adhering to their gap control and not supporting Steve Ott properly in their systems?
- AllInForFlyers

Plus/minus is a team number. What were the plus/minus numbers of the rest of St. Louis players during that same 23 game stretch? That would provide some context. If you can prove that those numbers were all due to Ott's rapid decline, you might have a point. And if you want to state that the Blues got knocked out early because of Ott, that's your choice. Have at it.

It's highly unusual for NHL GM's to trade draft picks at the trade deadline for playoff rentals.
