No, continue to be a playoff team, and improve through a dedication to drafting and developing. Detroit does it, San Jose does it, we can do it. We have some very promising prospects, and we need to give them all the time in the world to develop and come into their games. We drafted Giroux with the 22nd pick. So we finished 2nd in our division the year that we drafted our elite captain. We made it to the finals using strong trading and free agent signings. We don't need to go into tank mode to be a contender.

It's not that he's not all that great, it's that he shoulders responsibilities here that he's really not best suited for.

Coburn is the Hjalamarsson to your Keith and Seabrooke. The problem is we don't have a Keith or Seabrooke on this team.

No, not exactly.

All we've done is recognize that finding those players is what we need. The next step is actually doing it, which is not easy to do.

You don't trade players just for the sake of trading them. You try different things and do your due diligence, but you don't just trade a guy like Coburn because he's not good enough to shoulder the load.

The players we need simply aren't there right now in trades. So in the mean time, we will continue to draft well and plug holes through what trades we can make as well as FA.

I get what your saying though, we can't just keep handing out big contracts to FA's and assume they are going to fix our problems. No more Lecavlier kind of deals.

Mark Staal of the Rangers? He's not a legitimate #1. Not even close.

Shiner Bock has a nice flavor without the heaviness of Guiness. It was my big fall back in Texas and now that it's popular you can find it almost anyplace these days. I've just always preferred dark beers.

IMO, there aren't 30 "#1 defensemen" playing NHL hockey right now. It's why there so hard to find, because the team's that have them aren't about to give them up.

So until the Flyers draft and develop their own Pronger or Doughty or Chara, you do it by committee. I think a solid, top-4 committee here could certainly include Marc Staal, especially if Coburn sticks around.

I think playing in playoff games is important in developing a good team. I'd rather make the playoffs and lose in 7 games than finish 9th or 10th in the conference and get a few picks better in the draft

I agree. The biggest thing the Flyers have to do, barring any personel upgrades, is get their team game straightened out. Play more consistently at 5 on 5. That along with the natural progression of the young players, in and of itself, would be a major upgrade for the team.
