Oh, I thought Team Canada had Hamhuis ahead of Phaneuf as well.

I see a trade happening between Nashville and Colorado. We have an abundance of offense, they have an abundance of defense. ROR and Josi as the center pieces.
- goavsgo10

Josi is too good and locked at $4 mil a year until after the 2020 season. ROR is good, but he'll want a bad contract and isn't doing himself any favors right now. Plus, we traded his brothers a few years back to Phoenix for a late pick. Poile probably has an idea what headaches to expect.

Philly's taking all the risk here, giving up an unproven 2nd/3rd line center for a top pairing d-man, a top-10 pick, and a prospect.

This is also the reason why Chicago won't trade Hjalmarsson. Too much value and good steady play for the cap hit to trade him.

I think the Leafs need to add more, to make the risk worth their while.

I just can't understand how people think Pha9 is that bad. He plays on arguably the worst defensive team in the league, with a guy who is honestly a 3rd pairing d-man, 2nd at best. He's going to get traded and look a lot better simply because he'll be with a team that actually plays defense. Of course he isn't great defensively, but he isn't as bad as people think, and has a lot of other good qualities. I'm not saying that some of the trades Leafs fans propose aren't bogus, they are. But to say Phaneuf deserves no where near his contract value is shortsighted. Just wait until he's on a better team, he's going to look a lot better.

Well obviously. I mean, he gets 7mil a year! Maybe the Leafs can retain the entire cap hit and add in someone like Bernier to sweeten for Philly. I know it's a lot, but to get guaranteed future Hart winners like Schenn, you've gotta give a lot, ya know?

listen, i hate the guy as much as anyone else, but you're underselling him.

and what does the quality of his teammates have to do with how tough his competition is? The reason that he's playing all those tough minutes doesn't take away from the fact that he actually does play them, and pretty well.

the only teams i could think of where he probably wouldn't be top pair would be the rangers, hawks, and blues.

he's easily on the top pair in anaheim, boston, buff, cgy, car, col, dal, det, edm, fla, mtl, njd, nyi, ott, phi, phx, pitt, tb, van, wsh, wpg

it's debatable on LA, minny, and nash

- sensarmy_11

It's cause he is the other guy on the top pair not THE guy! The other guy is not paid $7 mil. He can be a excellent support to the top D on the team. He also needs an attitude adjustment and needs to be told his role.

don't disagree with any of that, although he would definitely be "the guy" on a few teams.

however, it doesnt' take away from the fact that he is a very very good hockey player.

i hate him, but i appreciate that he has value, and would be a very good addition to any hockey team.

fair enough. i do think you guys overvalue him a bit.............but then again, you see him play much more than i do.

as for your previous offer, smith for leddy, i'd do that for sure.

Not at $7 mil and never be THE top guy on a contender. He is big and chews up minutes but he is slow and not a very high hockey IQ. And the last thing that guy should have is a C on his shirt.

True, but consider Hjalmarsson is a less productive second pairing defenseman and still makes more than Josi.

I think a Weber/Pha9 pairing would be really fun to watch though. Plus, imagine Pha9 getting cocky in the lockerroom and Weber WWE slamming his face into a wall. (Sorry Zetterburg)

All that makes sense. He would have to slam his face in the wall a few times before he got the message.

What Hjalmarsson lacks in "production" he totally makes up for with stellar defensive play...

Yeah. Thats one thing he doesnt do. Guess you havent been paying attention? I dont like Snow in fact I wanted him fired the day after he was hired but thats not his MO. He will recoup that all important fifth round pick when he trades Boyle's rights to another tean like he did with errhoff. In fact he got a better pick with that trade and will probably do the same with boyle. As far as the vanek trade goes before you bring it up that was an anomaly as far as Snow who NEVER trades a prospect or pick unless its to move up for a better pick as part of a package.

It was conditional if he signs there, he didnt burn a draft pick on Boyles rights, if anything he can now gain one if he is able to trade his rights again.
