Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving denied a report over the weekend that suggesting he would offer Jiri Hudler, Mikael Backlund, "possibly" Dennis Wideman and and a draft pick for Ottawa Senators centre Jason Spezza.

"It's categorically false," he told Eric Francis of The Calgary Sun.

"I haven't made any such offers. That's 100 per cent Fantasy Island. I saw it early Sunday online and had to read it a couple times and had to remind myself 'oh ya I'm the Flames GM. Interesting.'"

Treliving added that while he and soon-to-be-free agent Michael Cammalleri are in talks regarding a possible contract, there was nothing to a report that both sides had agreed to his price but were not in agreement on term.

"The only things we're unable to agree on are term and price - other than that we have a deal," he told The Sun.

you're right about simmonds and cox though, they're pretty awful.

i remember, the summer that Boogaard committed suicide, cox implied that Matt Carkner should shoulder some of the blame for his death, cuz he was the one who fought and concussed him. was one of the sickest thing i've ever read

obviously i'm not a leaf fan, and by default dislike most things about their team.....but i really don't understand the criticism of phaneuf's game.

i don't think he's a very good captain, and his contract isn't very good......but the man can play hockey.

he plays 25 mins a night, on PP and PK, against the some of the toughest competition on a nightly basis, with a poopTY partner.

i don't think he's a top 10 guy, but he's a top pair on just about every team in this league. top 25 for sure.

listen, i hate the guy as much as anyone else, but you're underselling him.

and what does the quality of his teammates have to do with how tough his competition is? The reason that he's playing all those tough minutes doesn't take away from the fact that he actually does play them, and pretty well.

the only teams i could think of where he probably wouldn't be top pair would be the rangers, hawks, and blues.

he's easily on the top pair in anaheim, boston, buff, cgy, car, col, dal, det, edm, fla, mtl, njd, nyi, ott, phi, phx, pitt, tb, van, wsh, wpg

it's debatable on LA, minny, and nash

Those are given. I don't think Dion (right now) is top 25 in the NHL. I'd take those Dmen before Dion.... in a heartbeat in almost all cases
