I figured you actually got the definition from somewhere. And I agree that people like to throw those terms around a bit too loosely. "Elite" is another one that comes to mind.

I still remember when people had doubts that he would be a high end NHLer because of his size. Guess he proved them all wrong.

- HonkFortheGoose

Size is overrated, particularly by this fan base. I'll take a tiny player with Kane's hands over someone who can stand up to Lucic any day.

A. not a UFA

B. He's already Buffalo property

C. I've already been on record as saying he will get a Hodgson type deal. 5-6 years at 4.5-5 mil.

- dadeadhead

well i was more just using him as an example. i didn't want to take the time and energy to find a real one on the UFA list..

He's a polarizing figure, too, that's for sure. Really no middle ground when it comes to people's opinions.

Do you dare give Moulson 3 yrs/ 7 mil year then? Helps get to the floor, isn't longer than 3 years, and the extra mil a year could entice him and still offer him the chance at a future payday?

I like the guy, played hard, seems to be a player to look up to and emulate. From reports around, he actually like Buffalo and wants to come here?! I like the potential loyalty.

Niskanen 27yrs old I'd be ok with signing him to a 5-6 yr deal but only if they move Hoff.

Similar player, 5yr age gap.

will niskanen leave the spot he has.. i bet he is comfortable where he is. If he is going to have to be a #1 he can't do it.

He doesn't have to be the number one guy, that's supposed to be Myers job.

Not really.

Ehrhoff did relatively well playing high minutes against some pretty tough competition. Niskanen was the beneficiary of selective ice time and some luck in on ice save percentage + on ice shooting percentage.

Gunner's blog on Niskanen was pretty thorough, enough to convince me that he's not worth that money over 6 years.

Moulson isn't taking a 3 year deal. Neither will any of the top forwards. Which is why I'll be pretty annoyed when he gets his 5-6 year 6 mil per year deal here.
- sbroads24

I'm not picking you out broads, I'm just using your quote for everyone who's going to go ape poop when Moulson (when) he gets more than a 3 year deal.

Seeing that the cap will be up to probably past 80 million in 5-6 years, I see no problem having a guy at 5.5 on there as a top 6 forward. In that time, we will likely have probably 6 or so guys who will be worth an average of 6-7 mil. So that's around 40m. That leaves us with 40 mil to fill out the bottom 6 (avg 2.5 m) which comes out to around 15 plus a few more defenders who avg at let's say 4, which is another 16, plus a pair of goalies and lets say we're spending 7m on goalies. 40, 15, 16, 7..... 78m about. I think we'll be fine. That doesn't include folks on entry level contracts, who would drop those salary averages.

Relax friends.

But that's the problem though, if they plan on competing in 2 years, his cap hit will still be a problem for this team.

I don't understand the problem. I thought I just explained why his cap hit won't be a problem.

You explained why it won't be a problem in 6 years. My problem is 2 years from now, when his cap hit is still taking up a significant chuck of the cap.

Because we won't have bloated salaries on this team in two years. Risto might get 4-5, Pysyk 3-4, Stafford if he's here, 3-4, Neuvirth and Enroth maybe 3 a piece. I still don't see the issue. Who else is there? I mean with those guys, getting those raises today, barely puts us over the floor.

I can see it leveling off around the 75 mil spot for the next 5-6 years.

If the people get into power that want to get the Canadian dollar to 75, the NHL cap won't be making huge jumps.

The TV contracts are driving this market. I don't believe you're correct but we'll have to wait and see.

Talent over size everyday. If you build your team on the premise that size is most important element, you'll have a pretty bad team.

If a 5'10 player is straight up more talented than someone who's 6'4 and 230 you take the under 6 foot player every time.

The tv contracts are all signed and set for the foreseeable future(no new money). The strong Canadian dollar and it's 7 franchises account for the majority of team revenue. That dollar falls, so will the cap.

Let's play on the assumption that it actually is 75 million which seems to be conservative. I guarantee the Sabres figure out a way to make it come together. I feel like some folks just see a number and
