Oh my, you're crafty. I'm going to have a few drinks to mull over this deal. I'll get back to you when I'm good and drunk!

kinda over everybody saying "move one of grossmann or schenn"

one is an older dude one twisted ankle or knee away from retiring and the other is a young guy for whom we gave up a pretty good asset... unless luke's trade value is a lot higher than i am thinking it is right now it damn well better be grossmann going

- -davies-

That's where I am -- yeah, I get that there's no "JVR Warranty" on Luke Schenn, but Sweet Jesus, can we at least keep the guy until,he's 27 or 28, just to pretend like we wanted to see him as a finished product?

He is probably a finished product at this point, or very close. The one X factor is whether he will get better at playing within his strengths and limitations on a more consistent basis.

And I hope Bill is right that this is a quieter summer than some might think -- hey, if we're at this time next year and Brayden Schenn is exactly the same player he is right now, then fine. Move on, try to bring someone in who is more dynamic.

But, as with all of the young players we have...can we at least see what they truly are, first?

I'm not saying to never trade the Schenns or Coburn, ever. Just for this season, it would be nice to see if these young players could make the leap for the Flyers, not someone else

My friend slack lines for real. He's good. He goes like 30 feet high.

I agree with that, but I do think a more consistent Schenn would be a rock-solid No. 4, and that just isn't the worst thing -- someone will have to be Ghost or Hagg's partner, you know?

If Luke is a finished product at 24, would you call Niskanen's past season a career best he's likely never going to come close to repeating?

Has Phaneuf ever said on AM640 that it's his dream to play for the Flyers?

He may or may not, but I would say it is more likely that he does not. Keep in mind that Schenn's game is different than Niskanen's even though they play the same position: shorter learning curve because it's a simpler way to play but also a lower ceiling.

Unpossible! I've heard Coburn blows and should be traded immediately for just about any other player.

Glad to see you are getting it now. Some of the people on here who are Two Real will learn ya about how awful he is. GO SHARKS!

Ok Nashville. A swap of our 1sts plus a 3rd will get you vinny and we'll keep 1 mil of the cap hit throughout. Sounds like a deal to me

That's a shame. I first knew about him from a chapter of a book Stan Fischler wrote. The chapter was entitled "The Defenseman with Chutzpah" and chronicled how he used his marketing degree to make himself a portfolio and land a job with an NHL team.

Edit: Not the book, but a little bit of a reference also by Mr. Fischler:

I have the feeling that if they don't move him before July 1, it probably isn't going to happen, with all the other fall-backs teams have this summer.

Ottawa is the one place I think will be interested. Melnyk would probably love coopting the Vinny brand at a deep discount... hopefully they can move Spezza asap.

Plenty of moves are made in the off season after July 1.

Very sorry to see that.

After I finished playing in college. I played in a league where Mr. Zeidel would ref occasionally. A minor skirmish broke out and being closest to Mr. Zeidel at the time, he grabbed hold of me as I did him. It was like grabbing a wall. He calmly told me to calm down and I did, having no other choice because I couldn't move. His grip was so strong.

Oshawa Generals radio broadcaster Vishal Hussain passed along information from sources that the Flyers are indeed one of the the prime landing spots for coveted Czech forward Jiri “Cakes” Sekac.
It’s another move that would provide cheap offensive depth for the Flyers, who don’t have much salary cap room to work with.
Sekac, a 6″0″, 174 lb forward who shoots left, had 11 goals and 17 assists in 48 games for HC Lev Praha of the KHL last season. At the young age of 22, the ceiling of his potential remains to be seen, and you have to credit the Flyers for pursuing yet another overseas option that could potentially be a key contributor.

I agree completely that as far as the physical tools are concerned, what you see is what you get with Schenn. But I think there is still plenty of room for improvement in the mental parts of the game, and as far as consistency is concerned. Especially from year to year. He has had periods of play, where he has been a very strong player, followed by periods where he stops moving his feet, and takes himself out of the play. If he can find consistency and play at his highest level far more often, that'll be a significant improvement.

You aren't allowed to bring up Williams and Sharp. Plus the returns on both guys were humongous big.

Alaska was known as Seward's Folly, during the Lincoln administration.
