Well, LA has no overage

Bruins rolled the dice hard on Iggy, played well in season, but they fell short.

If a team likes Reilly Smith or Krug a lot, it could be really tough for them to match an offer sheet.

Thats tough. Its difficult to root for a guy and know he's (frank)ing up your cap next season at the same time.
- PhillySportsGuy

It is, but if he's holding the Cup, it's easier to accept. They have overages on Krug and Spooner, as well.

The Bruins, Pens and Red wings will be vulnerable this summer, depending on what moves they make.

Do you think the Wings may be temped to buyout Franzen? Isn't he signed until he's 42 or something?

Each team is going to get about 7M more, give or take of Cap space to use come July 1. A lot is going to depend on how many injuries, and how many call ups they had during the season.

I'm hoping we land this Czech kid. I changed my mind and want Laughton and ghost with the phantoms all year. So I can go watch them on the cheap with the other prospects

Maybe. They are almost certain to buy out Tootoo...mildly surprised he wasn't on waivers today with Ville & Booth

I wonder what happened to Kyle Quincey. In the beginning of his career, a good two way d-man. His offense has really dried up the last few seasons. He could be a good signing if you could get him for $4 million or less per year.

He really struggled when he left Colorado. No idea if it was just a bad fit in Detroit, or what, but he was very inconsistent, prone to mental mistakes.

I think the plan is to dump Vinny and either Grossmann or L. Schenn to carve out some additional cap space to sign some moderately prices UFAs to help the blueline and LW positions. I don't know who they will pair Coburn with, but I find it hard to believe the plan is to let Kimmo play 20 minutes a night and hope he has something left for the playoffs. They could really use another righty d-man even if L. Schenn is retained.

I was under the impression Boston, Chicago and LA never did anything wrong

Lol, it was a strange year with the artificially lowered cap... some teams made the calculated decision to artificially expand their payrolls by pushing some off to next year. Boston and Detroit should be OK... their overall salary structures are sound.

Agreed. I just want more puck playing ability and mobility on defense. I do understand the desire to retain some size on defense. With Kimmo & Streit they have a couple of smallish guys anyhow. Still mobility and especially puck moving ability are key to me. If it's a bigger dude like Fayne, great.

Boston is looking at about 4.3M of Cap space, with RFA's Krug, Reilly Smith, and Bartkowski needing to be re-signed, as well as needing to sign a backup Goalie. And that's with the Cap at 71.1M.

That's 1.075M for each player. Something has to give there.

I think Stralman will be too expensive. Fayne or Hainsey could make some sense. Hexy was already in LA when they claimed Quincey off of waivers from Detroit. I would just be very surprised to see both Grossmann and L. Schenn return next season.

Right now, outside of Timonen with his new deal, it's pretty fair to say the only guy who is underpaid for what he does on the entire defense is Coburn. I'd rather give Coburn a raise than have to keep Streit & MacDonald as the bedrock vets of the defense.

Outside of Coburn, the rest of the defensemen are 3-4-5 guys. You call Mason & the forwards the strength of the team, and then suggest dumping the best player from the weak spot? Makes no sense from a team building perspective, unless you have a replacement in mind or on his way

I agree. Prior to his outstanding playoffs, Stralman might have been had for $4mm a year or so. Now I expect him to get similar deal-or better-than MacDonald.

Fayne and Hainsey are definitely guys I'd kick tires on, along with Tom Gilbert, Nikita Nitikin and maybe see who gets a CBO

Marc Savard LTIR, 10% summer overage, two CBO's, and a lot of very tradeable contracts makes me think they'll be just fine.

Nikitin looks due for a bounce-back year after two tough seasons... him, along with Kulemin, are the two potentially huge value buys I'm keeping an eye on. The potential Tom Gilbert/Mason Raymond of this summer, if you will.

Any chance Nash gets CBO'd and we get him cheaper? He is still rather young.I think with G and V, that could be a solid line. Then Harts could play with Schenn and Simmonds

Yeah, I wonder where Kulemin will end up, price wise. Coming off a $2.8mm cap hit...might be forced to take less. Good two way guy

I would love that but there is no way they buy out a guy they bring in to be their franchise player and has way more upside than say Richards.
But like I say I would love that. Was very upset we didn't get him instead of nyr when the deal happened. I think he would of been way better off playing along side giroux.

Tough to argue Nash didn't perform well enough for the amount of money he's being paid, but damned if he didn't look to be giving his best most of the time he was on the ice. He just couldn't sink the puck.
