Poile on nhl live today saying he's very open to trading his #11 pick or players for top 6 offense help. Talked of how deep his team is in goal and d. Said he planted seed at gm meetings. They're making moves for sure. Deal can be mAdebfor a dman
- Sms401

If you can move up from 17 to 11 with Vinny you do it. Otherwise I dont make the move unless a player falls. Not much difference between 11 and 17 this year.

I dont know why I thought Nashville had a higher pick this year. I thought they were 7th or 8th for some reason.

Per capgeek on twitter, Flyers expected to have $345K bonus overage heading into next season
- Jsaquella

So...just for clarity...if Vinny is traded, they won't have this overage right?

That is incorrect. That overage will be on the Flyers cap regardless of what moves they make.

Ok so what does this mythical overage mean. What's the penalty for this

Just dead cap space for bonuses pushed into this year's cap from going over last year. Bonus money can be pushed from one year to the next to help with the cap.

Like Timonen's deal, if he reaches the bonueses, the Flyers can count the $1.5mm against this year or next year, depending upon how much room they have.

So is this a result of the recent Timonen signing or no?

EDIT: oh I see. Thanks jsaq

Nothing to do with the recent Timonen signing.

Here's basically what happens with the Bonus cushion. Teams can defer bonuses, to the following year, using the bonus cushion. Players eligible for performance bonuses are players on EL deals. And players signed to one year 35+ deals. Teams only have to account for the base salary of those players, to be cap compliant. At the end of the year, all the Cap expenditures are totaled up. If there is room still under the Upper Limit, they are tacked on for that year's Cap. If there isn't enough room to cover it. All or part of the bonuses earned by those players that have it written into their contract and were earned that couldn't be fit into that years cap, is tacked on to the following season as a bonus overage.

I can't stand bonus overages when you push the cap limit every year. Wouldn't be such an issue, but seems most contracts give the extra 250K AAV which adds up.

It can be shortsighted. Boston is gonna feel Iginla's bonuses hard this year. But a couple hundred thousand isn't a big deal.

Because you need depth at Center also. That weakens the team too much at one position. You're losing two of your best young forwards. I love Josi, but one or the other in the deal. Not both.
- MJL

i understand. not even saying id do the deal. i just was interested because you argued for pretty much an entire season that Schenn was just fine on the wing.

Well it's likely going to be more for the 15/16 season if what I've seen of Timonen's deal is true. And it's really Pronger that is the biggest issue. That's what is going to force the Flyers into LTIR.

I do feel that he is. But I don't believe the Flyers do. And unless I missed a phone call or an Email. I don't think I'm coaching the Flyers. And even if you want to call Schenn a Winger. I still wouldn't give up both Schenn and Laughton.

Well, LA has no overage

Bruins rolled the dice hard on Iggy, played well in season, but they fell short.

With Giroux, Couturier and Laughton all expected to be top nine centers, I still don't see how Schenn doesn't play wing down the road.

I'm tempted to write some long winded paragraph, which keeps you engaged, but offers no answer to your question.

Thats tough. Its difficult to root for a guy and know he's (frank)ing up your cap next season at the same time.
