HA. I love those (not really). I think I'm going to be THAT guy from now on that responds with something like...'Well, if you'd stop making poor life decisions, you wouldn't be so frustrated with your life'

Here is what I know.....Yes MCD is a control freak, yes he's a bit of a jerk......but he is not involved in hockey decisions.....he wants the best team out on the ice.....

He's not in the position he is today by being low key and timid.....that being said there is a lot things around the league he's had his hand in...

very true. I think we should be proud of the 3million last summer...i was there and it was one if the best days of my life...perfect day, hawks red everywhere and just an all out city-wide party...i think the early 90s teams influenced a growth in hockey around Chicago BC my dad got me into hockey when I was six and I was born in 91...i love the growth of hockey in this city and it will keep growing

It was fantastic. Had a friend take his kid down near the UC on the route. Kid loved every moment of it. If they win again, that's where I'll take my kids. Better shot at getting a good look at all the players and not being 1000 people deep.

Yeah, the 5 million people in Grant Park was a sight to see....
- StLBravesFan

I still wonder how many attended? The grant Park rally was huge. But I was walking down michigan ave about the time the parade ended and the players were at grant park. It was a sea of Hawk jerseys coming back after the parade part.

No thanks. I like sitting back and posting here. I also like having conversations with guys from time to time who are in the know and some of it I share, and some if I don't.

As I'm sure you do as well, Unnamed Source. ....

If they were the same age it'd be a more difficult decision, but given Doughty's youth, if you're starting a team today it's a no brainer to take him over Keith. Keith's friendly cap hit makes him an outstanding value though, and that's hard to ignore.
- Ogilthorpe2

Agreed. I think Keith is great. I do. I just heard that he was a jag off the ice. I haven't personally met him, so I take it as is. However, if we are going to pencil in other guys...I just thought I would share Keith.

Doughty is fantastic. The one thing that Doughty has over Keith is his shot. Hell, the whole LA D core have decent shots. That's one thing the Hawks D really needs to get better at. They need to get their shots through. Especially with traffic in front of the net.

I'm not sure what's worse...those people or the agenda pushers (religion, politics, etc). The attention seekers in my feed are usually the same, emotionally fragile women that have nobody to blame but themselves.

ADD: The agenda pushers are worse. I can barely stand all the anti-Obama stuff I see on there. At least with the emo's, I can just laugh at their pain.

doughty seems like a bigger jerk based on his media comments about "the fear in the eyes of the sharks leaders" and how they "are almost a dynasty"...he also held out for a big contract after he did jack squat the year before the extension

I'd agree Doughty is better at getting his shot through and he's more physical, every other aspect, skating, passing, defense, decision making I think Keith is superior.

Here is what McD does.....

Bowman or Bowmans say they are interested in said player or a trade for this player is a possibility.....

McD asks......who on the current roster would be impacted or how is the current roster going to be impacted?

McD and his staff figure out where the player fits into the marketing plan of the Hawks.....Is he an A player.....face of the franchise type.......B player....support player with recognizable personality......C .....background player

They are prepared once the player arrives and move forward accordingly......

The player leaving the franchise is reminded in so many ways about the hawks legacy and how being on the roster during the current run means years of being part of the hawk family.....like being invited to hawks conventions etc......

There is a lot more to it but that's pretty much the outline.....

This poops starting to annoy me. I love Kane, but when i read stuff like this it really makes him look like a selfish wiener. So he needs to win a Hart Trophy, or he needs to score the most goals in the league? Or what? He'll leave? Really? Does he really think thats gonna happen on a team with such deep offensive talent like the Hawks? Put him with Toews(as legit of a center as you'll find) for a full season, i bet my life he still wont win Hart or score the most goals. Just too many other Hawks players that are gonna score and put up points. If he wants those trophies then he might as well just go play for a lesser team that needs to count on him for the full scoring load, seriously.

I know these are rumors and these statements aren't word for word what Kane has said, but if any of this is remotely true than its very disappointing. Disappointing that Kane cant see the difference between building a solid overall team with the cap situation in mind to get as close as possible to winning Stanley Cups....and building a dominant line around him with a superstar center(which would require creating too many other holes on the roster) just so he can rack up his own points. Jealousy of Toews? Overinflated Ego? Idk what it is but every time i read this poop it gets more and more agitating.

You are right about that. I got caught up in the moment. Should have taken a 10 second count and moved along.

The one thing I have heard different vs what you have is that McDonough is very much involved in hockey decisions. It's to the point that I HEARD that some Gms arent' sure who is the "true" decision maker when dealing with the Hawks and it has affected a few transactions over the past few years. I never heard EXACTLY what those transactions were, but I trust the person who told me this....

I also posted an article from ESPN yesterday. Knowing that Scotty Bowman spends a LOT of time sitting down in Florida watching ALMOST every NHL game and then interjecting those notes in organizational meetings......I would venture to guess that IF the Hawks do add a center, he will be of the Dave Bolland/Stoll clone OR large in size. I also woudlnt' be shocked to see them shop hard for a D man who can get his point shot through and help contribute on the back end. I think they view Leddy as one of these guys, and that's why I would bet Oduya will go LONG before Leddy does. I also think the Tampa chatter is very real and I'll also add this.....historically this team has made a LOT of trades during the season right after one of these organizational pow-wows. I dont' think that is a coincidence either.

And some of those players exiting let it be known that they'd like to come back and prove to be "team guys" who accept lessen roles for a chance to win.

That is why all this talk about Versteeg being casted off the island is pure gold to me. Not with his retained cap hit. Not with what he CAN be IF he comes back stronger year 2 from a knee injury.

So while the likes of Jay Zawaski want to spread the epidemic that the Hawks routinely lose because of Versteeg...well........ Not even close. Again....agendas.

How about maybe him thinking:

(1) It would be best for this team if we had a 2C I could play with
(2) I would like to be the best player I can be, and I need a real 2C to do that - and that would help the team
(3) Like every other great player, I would like to be recognized as one - and that means serious consideration for the Hart and other trophies

Don't see any of that as being selfish or putting himself before the team - just a highly competitive professional athlete.

The who's making the decision thing is more about Scotty than about McD......Scotty runs the show in terms of how a player fits and what type of player they need.....Scotty was the one who wanted Leddy included in the Barker deal. McD does not get involved in ANY hockey decisions......Scotty would have none of it if it were true.....Mcd Knows the plan the Bowmans set forth and as long as the numbers work than its a non issue......the only time he gets involved is off ice stuff when it has the potential to scar the brand.....Scotty LOVES Stephen Johns!
