I should have qualified my statement by saying he's less likely to be moved for what the Hawks will likely be willing to offer.

He's obviously the best of the 3, and has a cap friendly deal for 2 more years. What makes you think Nielsen would be the most likely to be moved? Makes no sense, unless you think GM's are in the business of lending Stan a helping hand. The Isles will need a 2C in the future too, no?

- Ogilthorpe2

With his cap hit....length of contract.....and isles lack of d depth or anyone that can play d for that matter......He is the perfect candidate to be moved if you're adding defense.

If they want D, they can probably do better than Rozy, Leddy or Oduya. I don't see the Hawks trading #'s 4 or 7. Don't see it happening.

meh. nielsen may be good at the dot. What happens when the other team has the puck. The guy averages 30 hits a season. Him and Kane on a line together are going to have a hard time getting the puck back. That would be my concern.

At the end of the day. Anyone that plays 2C will be an improvement over Handzus in that role.

Kane excels with a center who has some of the same attributes as Toews. Yeah, I know, there is only one Toews. Kane needs a center who can keep up with him and whose strengths are driving the net and working down low. I am not sure Nielsen fits that criteria.

How much of Nielsen have you watched?.......and now we need someone who hits more?.....when that's not what a puck possession team? ?.......um.....makes sense.....I guess
- UnnamedSource

I have watched him enough to know that winning board battles isn't his strong suit. And you eventually have to do that in the playoffs. Or did you not notice?

Leddy and oduya are the correct form of compensation for a player like nielsen.....

JJ and a bunch of others were all in favor of that one a couple of summers back

sharp is a much better player than neilson. i would never do sharp for neilson without another good prospect coming back from NYI...Hawks first line LW and Canadian Olympian for a horrible team's 2nd line center...stan should be fired if he makes that deal

I wouldn't make that move if I were NY's GM.
Not even close.

I've never advocated a sharp for Nielsen trade. ....

It's always been a deal surrounding Leddy and Neilsen.

Why? One is a top 4 puck moving dman for a cup winning/contending team. ......The other is a puck moving dman on cup winning/contending team with a high ceiling/potential. .....you have no defense and a player in nielsen who will probably leave in two years......I would do that deal in a second.

He is the same size as Kruger. He is a career 48% FO guy. He definitely isn't worth Sharp alone. Leddy or Oduya.

Every summer, and at every TDL the faithful here fall in love with one or two players.
This summer, it's Neilsen's turn. I wouldn't worry too much about it, Stan & Co will do what they can with the resources they have, no matter what the name du jour is.

Nope. I hope they don't move him. Sure seems like they will though. I am not exactly filled with overwhelming confidence that Bickell can handle that for a full season.
- Elbows15

Do you have any confidence that Shaw can handle 2C for a full season?

As much as I love the Neilsen idea, I don't think it's going to happen. I think we're going to end up with Shaw & Smith centering the 2nd line to start the season, and Teuvo getting a call-up in February.

I'm waiting on Bowman to bring in another shutdown center for the lower lines.
