I think people were more excited with the fact that new ownership was willing to splash the cash so people were going to be happy with basically anyone as long as we outbid somebody.

It was done to lesson the blow that Brad Richards did not even want to speak to us. Thank God !! That worked out so well for the Rangers.

It's a shame they archive the blogs now and it's tough to get to comments from three years ago. It was more than just that. I got lambasted by some, saying I could never be satisfied, and all I wanted was more, more more. It was quite comical actually.

No, Ville deserves respect for his accomplishments as a Sabre. He will never be forgotten.

I was skeptical then, but I said I would reserve judgement and trust what they were doing. Boy was i wrong.

That is fantastic!! But I am with 89 on this one I would like him back in Buffalo (at a reasonable contract like 3 years 15 million)
- Stripes77

He apparently enjoyed his time here. Take it as a grain of salt, EK has him going to the sabres.

Heat of the moment, everyone was giddy and didn't want someone ruining their parade.

I bet if a signing like that happened now most fans would be livid since the "honeymoon" phase is over.

Why not claim Booth?

Just a thought he has 1 year left on his contract a 4.5 million cap hit, he wont hurt us when we would be starting to get better plus it helps getting to the cap floor and its not like they would have to go out and try to get another veteran to come here

But I'd argue even after a record worst season we're closer now than we were that year.

That team was destined for 7th/8th/9th, at least this time around the potential is there to be a great team. Remains to be seen if they can do it but full marks to them for going for it "the hard way"

At this point, I'll take anyone at just about any salary if he's willing to come here and sign a contract for 3 years or less.

They waived him, so if the Sabres claim him he would have to report here unless he pulled a Klesa. It's only for 1 season too

No, you have to waive a player first to use the compliance buyout on them. Leino will be a compliance buyout

That shootout goal at home towards the end of last season. That was the accomplishment.

Booth. I know he's on waivers, but the principle still stands. If he's got less than 3 years on his deal, I say sign him to get to the floor.

David Booth, he was 1 year left on his contract with a 4.5 million cap hit. The Canucks just waived him. Why not claim him? It helps get to the floor. You don't have to convince a veteran player to come here in Free Agency this way?
