Pay no attention to the crazy trade talks in here...
- jochfr

28 goals (6 GWGs), 88 takeaways, One of the Top PK forwards, plays wing and C. Lots a lot to make up, hes a big cog in the Avs line up, 1st round picks and D Prospects wont land him.

ROR will be an AV for a long time I don't know why this is being discussed.
- ImThatGuy

There are few players in the NHL I would be ok seeing ROR shopped for. A bunch of nice pieces wont make up losing him.

But Avs are apparently having a press conference on Thursday or Friday according to Dater. Rumoured to be about a Stastny Extention. See what he signed for and then we all can see whats left over for ROR.

While all that is true, the Avalanche, like every other team, will be faced with some decisions down the road, especially when MacKinnon is up for his first big contract. The fact that O'Reilley priced himself this high this early may make him a casualty, but not until later down the road.

The fact he can play Wing, and primarily will be one on the Avs, makes it easier to justify playing his salary. Landy and Duchene are signed to great deals. They can afford to over spend on ROR a bit, especially if Stastny takes a discount hometown deal, balance out the 4 and I think the Avs still have cushion room for when MacK is ready for his new deal

You're dismissing the fact, though, that this team still needs to upgrade in other areas (i.e. defense) as well. If you are ever going to be a true cup contender, you're going to have to give end up with a significant contract or two on the back end as well. This is not to say that Ehrhoff is that guy. You'll probably have to pay someone else, a better player, more money eventually. Like I said, someone in that forward group is most likely out of there. If I were making the decision, it would most likely be Stastny, but if they are giving him an extension already, that doesn't seem to be their line of thinking. We won't know until one or two years down the road, but I would bet money on the fact that we're going to look back on this year and say that this was when O'Reilley priced himself off this Colorado team.

That also doesn't even start to speak of the problem Pittsburgh had, and that was depth, which occurs when you have too many top-end contracts, even if they're not completely exorbitant.

From JJ in the Hawks Blog...

Here's what I see (and hear):

The money, opportunities to win Cups, etc., keeps him in Chicago. he and Toews have the same agent. Their contracts are on a parallel path.

BUT . . . he DOES very much want to step out of Toews' shadow, either with the Hawks or elsewhere. He does that with the Hawks by reaching his personal goals. If he can't, I think Buffalo would be his first choice, where he would lead the Sabres back to a Renaissance.

Not going to talk about that possibility as we will surely jinx it and we will be a laughing stock . If it happens ? INCREDIBLE !!!!! . Not going to plan on it at all . The rebuild continues as planned.

DesLauriers signed - about 640k/year for 2 years

One RFA down, 5 to go (this contract keeps DesLauriers a RFA when it's done too)

EDIT: Those "5 to go" was just referencing the parent club. I just noticed about 6 more in the minors

- stashu

i liked Deslauriers.. he could be a solid bottom depth guy.

Stats are fine, but it's the relationship between player and team that I'm questioning.

He may want to move on

If that Hawks can have Kane, Toews, Hossa, and Sharp under contract hovering around the 6m mark for 5 plus years and win 2 cups bc of it, nothing stopping the Avs doign the same model for the contracts

Yes they need to upgrade their D, but they did that in getting EJ, a dman they didnt have in their system at the time. Barrie is finally panning out. THey have Seimens and Bigras as promising Dmen. One coudl pan out to be a big time player. They are trying to building their Core from within the system like the hawks with Keith, Seabrook, and Hjarmalsson.

Avs are not ready to make a serious cup run. I would say 2 seasons out till they are a real threat with thier current depth. Why trade away ROR to plug one hole but open up a bigger one somewhere else. Keep ROR, and hope a better dman crop comes up in UFA in a season or 2 or just try to develop your own. Dont do any harsh moves now

They aren't going to trade ROR now. Like I said, the decision will come 1 or 2 years down the line, possibly 3. Players of ROR's style are not worth the $7 million in the long run. Their bodies don't last long enough, and the salary ends up greatly outweighing the production.

I'll be the first to charge into that battle and the first to die (if he does get traded which I already bet both of my shoes and my car on not happening)

BTW, for all you incessant and relentless ROR creamers.

Per Baker:

Conner Bleackley – C/LW, Red Deer Rebels (WHL), 6’0.25”, 192 lbs.

Teams can win with highly competitive players that do everything well, and Bleackley does just that without having one top-notch standout skill. Bleackley shined as a 17-year old captain in the Western league, using his strong two-way skills to ring up 29 goals and 68 points for a mediocre Rebels squad. A strong skating game, ultra soft oft passing hands and a willingness to finish hits round out a potential middle-line package that coaches love, and I would rush to the stage to take him, especially if Demko is already off the board. He kind of reminds me a guy who went 33rd in 2009.

ROR style? You know hes not a physical player. He only had 22 hits last year.
Duchene, MacKinnon, and Stastny all doubled his hit totals. Landy is a 200+ hit kind of guy.

ROR is defensive with his stick, he strips the puck clean with little stick lifts. He doesnt use his body to make space, just smart with the puck and always sneaks into those spots that the puck will eventually go instead of chasing it.

Ill drop it, but he is a unique player, just have to watch him for 80 games to see what he really brings to the table. Looking at Stats doesnt tell his story. Big Boner for the guy, also know that hes a head case with his life coach dad. So the reality of him leaving one day is a big one
