Snowpe, snow way

Don't know why anyone even pays attention to it, most fans including my self don't even bother partaking in it, same should be said for Dee's blogs

He should be wearing them on his middle finger.

I heard the chant at 17:49 of the 1st period of Game 3 @ MSG.

They do the chant at Knicks games. I heard it at the Circus once too. They're never gonna let that go until the guy who whistles dies.

As long as Keaner doesn't look him up on Wiki, he should be fine.

The "Potvin Sucks" chant began in earnest with the hit on Ulf Nilsson. Ulfie was never the same player after that — dogged by injuries. He missed the Cup run the Rangers had in 1979, and Ranger fans at that time blamed the hit, and Potvin for preventing the Rangers from winning in the finals that year (They lost to the Habs).

Today — Id be surprised if 10% know the reason why the chant originated.

I despise the Rangers, and can say today — Lundqvist annoys the crap out of me. But Im a fan of the game. And I can dislike a team, root against that team, and still be honest and say, Lundqvist is a fantastic player and carried the Rangers to the finals this season. I hated every minute of it as an Isles fan, but the guy deserves the accolades. He's a great goalie. Im not going to start going to games and yelling "Lundqvist Sucks." That's just silly.

Isles fans don't go to games vs the Caps and yell "Hunter Sucks." Could a healthy Pierre Turgeon helped the 1992-93 Isles make it past the Habs and earn them a trip to the Finals? Could he have been enough for that Islander team to win the cup? There might be some who suggest it was possible. That was a great run (the last Isles run sadly.) But there is no way we could assess on paper that a healthy Turgeon would have been the difference. He may have helped make that a 6 or 7 game series with the Habs, but I think the Habs were the better team that year.

Those who suggest the Potvin hit was a "cheap shot" — well — I suggest you look at the hit. Nilsson was FACING Denis. Potvin's feet did not leave the ice. He did not charge Nilsson. It was a clean hit, and Nilsson had to see it coming. The one element to it — Denis Potvin was built like a mack truck. And most people that got hit by him in interviews said it — when Potvin hit you, you felt it to your bones.

That was Garth Snow (our very own GM) who went after McSorley!!

Those are cheap shots!

Further evidence that Dee just doesn't get it. It is GREAT that Rangers fans still chant "Potvin sucks". It goes to show their mass psychosis and inferiority complex all these many years later. The reason they hate Potvin isn't because he broke the ankle of an above average player who was never the same after it. He wasn't going to be the difference maker in their loss in the finals. It was the fact that Davidson ran out of gas in the finals that cost them that cup...one he stole three rounds to reach because the Rangers just weren't that good. No. Potvin was not JUST the guy who broke an ankle, but he kept lifting the cup 4 times, the Norris trophy 3x...he was best player in NY for a decade and the captain of the hated rivals when they came of age and became a dynasty. That is why they hate Potvin. I love going to games and hearing Rangers fans cheer it. I was at a Caps Rags game in DC and Rags fans were chanting it. It shows the level of jealousy and patheticness of that organization that they NEVER had a player that good, that dominant, and that successful. If Dee Karl were anything else besides an volunteer unpaid PR intern for the Isles front office so she could keep her "blaaaag box" seat, she'd know this. But instead, we will continue to get updates on who is signing autographs at the Massapequa Mall store this weekend. Let Rangers fans chant all they want. What they won't do is see another cup in their lifetime. Same Rosen was right in 94 "This one will last a lifetime". Its going to have to. What choice do they have.

I agree the chant is stupid but has nothing to do with inferiority. Inferiority is when your organist plays the "chicken dance" or "If your happy and you know it" just so Islander fans can say the Rangers suck. Thats inferiority. Islanders havent been relative since 1993 and are 30 years without sniffing the cup. 1984 will last a lifetime for you guys. They were a dynasty and an awesome team and as a Ranger fan I hated them for it. But what since? Bunch of terribly run teams, bad trades, criminal owners, bunch of top 10 draft picks with nothing to show for it. Sans JT. I do agree Potvin does not suck and his check on Nilsson was not dirty.
