I find it hard to believe Hexy would trade B. Schenn, unless he is very confident that Laughton can evolve into a legitimate 3rd line center in two years. Then it makes sense to sign a guy like B. Boyle to help with the defensive responsibilities Laughton will gradually assume as his career goes forward.

I'm not against acquiring Phaneuf and really Hartnell and L. Schenn should be more concerned about their play because Phaneuf is easily a better player then both at this time. Those two need to be better and not worry about personal issues with a new guy in the locker room.

I wouldn't part with Schenn for Phaneuf. His contract is very unappealing. Any deal involving Phaneuf would need to have them taking VL back.

I don't mind Phaneuf's contract. He plays a ton of minutes and has been durable. I would believe he probably is paid about a half a million/yr more then he should be. I think he would be more effective in a market in which he wasn't a captain in a Canadian market. I think if he gets traded to Edmonton, it wouldn't be good for him.

If I could get a top pairing of Phaneuf and Coburn, keep the three young blueliners and Laughton (no shot at moving Coots), honestly I'm seriously thinking about it. Vinny is pretty much leaving one way or the other in my opinion.

Im ok with Phaneuf, but I'm not trading B. Schenn for him, unless im also getting a good youngster. No way you trade a chip like Schenn AND take on a difficult contract to boot.

Im offering Hartnell as part of it, not a kid like Schenn. If that makes it impossible, oh well

Trading BSchenn creates too much of a hole at LW. Hartnell isn't really his old self. Vinny just cant do it and Raffl is just average.

If we're trading for a D man I'd much rather shop Laughton+. The return obviously wont be as big as Phaneuf but you aren't springing holes elsewhere to fix the current one.

I do kind of wonder if a Vinny+ for Kesler deal might not just get done. Kesler's list seems to be quite small and its sounding like some of those teams aren't even interested. Vinny would have to agree to waive but I dont think he'll be looking to stick around here too long if the Flyers want out that badly.

I'm not being trollish what I'm about to write. However, I don't think Phaneuf's contract is that bad. He still isn't 30 and plays over 23 minutes/night. I like his contract a lot better then what I believe Niskanen will get this summer.

I'm not sure what is going to happen with B. Schenn. I believe he will be here this year. I'm a huge Coots fan, and I believe he can evolve into a Kopitar type center. However, that is a really leap of faith on the organization's part. Probably better to hedge their bet and retaining B. Schenn.

I don't want to deal Schenn for him. I would rather deal Schenn for a younger, less established dman who costs less.

I would rather take the chance on a guy like Josi than Phaneuf.

I think the Pens and Ducks would offer something better than that. Flyers may need to trade VL+ for nothing in return. Similar to Gagne+ for Matt Walker.

Bob McKenzie says Colorado has filed for arbitration with Ryan O'Reilly. In past this was done to prevent an offer sheet...but under new CBA teams can still sign him ti a OS. Interesting tactic by Avs, could piss him off & make him hard to sign

No more than what's happened with him and them before.......more of the same

Phaneuf's deal isn't that bad, but he is almost 30. He's a good player & probably worth Schenn, but there's guys on my list before Dion, and his contract is part of it.

I'm not gung Ho to trade Schenn, and if the right deal isn't there, I don't make one. If I'm trading Schenn & getting Phaneuf, it's got to be bigger and include a bigger contract heading to TO from Philly with a kid coming back

I think we've gotten into a situation where people feel the Flyers need to do SOMETHING. There is no reason we need to make a play for a #1 defenseman this offseason. Flyers just look under every rock, but they shouldn't feel they need to make a deal just to make a deal. Thats how you end up with JVR for L Schenn.

I don't like Phaneuf's ability to age. Defenseman who age well are generally the smart ones with strong puck skills or strong skating. Phaneuf lacks elite puck skills and isn't a very good skater. He's not the most positionally sound player as well.

He's defintiely a top pairing guy now, but I don't think he will maintain that level of play for 7 more years or even close to that.

I think Polie really views Josi as his new Suter next to Weber. I think there would be a better shot trading for Gardiner, Vatanen, or Gormley from Arizona. I'm not advocating trading B. Schenn straight up for any of these guys

Nashville could use some young, top 6 forwards under team control.

Poile may love Josi, but if the right deal comes along, I see no reason why he wouldn't make it. He has Ekholm, Ellis, Jones, Weber and MDZ on the team already.

I think they need to be proactively looking for a defenseman. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't, but they cant dismiss a possible move unless it really makes no sense

To me, Schenn for Phaneuf doesn't make sense. I wouldn't mind acquiring Phaneuf, but his deal hurts his value. In order to make the deal happen, the Flyers could need to move more salary

Josi, Byfuglien, Erhoff & Yandle would all be more attractive to me, not sure how realistic they are. Id kick tires on TJ Brodie, Shattenkirk, Leddy, Jason Demers & Tyler Myers

Agreed.

Theres also a rumor from Edmonton that has B.Schenn & Coburn headed there for David Perron & either Oscar Klefbom or Mark Maracin.

Id be ok with that, so long as its a first move with a forward traded to add a defenseman
