You were talking about who should win the Conn Smythe just as I was reading the article. Thought I'd share. It wasn't meant to prove anything. I thought it was an interesting article.
- PhillySportsGuy

Actually I blatantly call Justin Williams winning the conn smyth. You did what you always do which was go against me. I'm just pointing out that I have a pretty good eye for what's obvious.

nice to see the flyers only contribution to the playoffs is ray emery staring inside the net, giroux getting side swiped, and emery getting scored on in a back-door play. i'm surprised this isn't an nhl commercial.

We all say we have the patience, and yeah, so did Hextall, but this is not a patient, rebuilding, organization, fanbase, ownership, etc.
- puckhead17

iKR...man, we just really need to be patient right now.

Spot in some kids, dump some salary, support Couturier and Schenn as they develop

Creating financial flexibility just for the hell of it isn't what I want. You want it because it increases the types of deals and moves you can make, especially when injuries strike. It sucks when every move you can make has to be dollar for dollar.

I understand what everyone else is saying, about potentially adding pieces via trade. Or maybe adding a guy like Tom Gilbert on a short deal.

I disagree -- not because I am an expert. I just really want them to bite the bullet this season, develop and promote from within, and create the kind of depth that will see this team become a true contender.

I can see both. Phaneuf gets maligned, but he's still a good player. Boyle is a decent depth guy to buy time for the kids...depends heavily on cost in both cases

I could see Boyle, because he moves pretty well for a big man, is good on faceoffs and has good defensive ability. He'd be a significant piece/upgrade to the fourth line. He shouldn't cost a huge amount -- not free, but affordable.

With Phaneuf...he is a flawed player, but he is also deployed for too many minutes. I don't hate him as much as some, but seriously...how in the hell could that deal get done? You'd have to be moving someone like MacDonald back, because Phaneuf's cap hit is $7 million -- not only are you giving up assets, and cap space, but you are also blocking a roster spot for a young player for years to come.

Phaneuf is exactly the kind of deal the Flyers should avoid, IMO

I agree with you on Phaneuf. I don't think he's worth the assets Toronto would probably be asking for. I'm also of the belief that he is very overrated and not worth anywhere near 7mil a year. Not to mention there are 2 guys on this team that have issues with Phaneuf (Hartnell and L. Schenn) so who knows what that may do to the locker room chemistry.

I've had phaneuf of this Phaneuf talk. The Flyers have phaneuf overpaid players, and by the same token, more than phaneuf overpaid defenseman!

Phaneuf with phaneuf. He's not a fit here.

Yes I'm proud of myself. Yes, I made myself laugh.

In all seriousness, the Flyers should stay FAR away from that contract

Ek also has us in on pouliot. I'm ok with plucking him or Boyle away from the rangers at market price.

Phaneuf you say? I'm ok if they take grossmans contract, b schenn, and our 1st this year. I'm ok with that but they have to send their 2nd rounder

I just am in no hurry to move Schenn's 20 goals and I definitely am in no hurry to move draft picks -- our farm system right now is simply ridiculous. We need more talent in it, desperately, IMO.

I mean, seriously. It's great that the Flyers have been able to offer contracts to European free agents like Jaromir Jagr and Michael Raffl and they have been able to help, and hopefully that will continue with Bellemare.

But the flip side is that the Flyers have gaping holes on the NHL roster that guys off the street can fill because the farm system simply can't.

I just don't think you can win the Cup that way. Not anymore.

Have to pay to play. Niskanen is half the d man phaneuf is and he will get close to his money. Phaneuf is way overworked. He is a true #1 but he needs support. The flyers new style will help him instead of leaving him out to dry

Normally, I agree with that -- you sometimes have to pay for what you need, and you can't be scared to do so.

With the Flyers right now...to me, it equates to deficit spending. We don't have the depth to be doing deals where we are giving up three, four assets for one piece -- unless it is for a player with so few question marks, it is a no-brainier.

Phaneuf isn't that piece, to me
