IF phaneuf is actually going to edmonton, gagner is definitely going back. oilers aren't taking that heavy contract without moving one of their larger ones.

realistically, phaneuf is still worth more than gagner, so edmonton needs to add.
they clearly won't trade any of their current core guys, so really the only thing that makes sense is that 3rd overall.

maybe some prospects could be added on either side to even it up, but i think those will be the main pieces involved. leafs will draft bennet/reinhart, oilers can draft ritchie/virtanen.

I think there is a potential for a trade for both teams but you are right. It has to be value for EDM to make the trade. Same for the Leafs don't want Gagner.

EDM isn't forced to make a stupid deal, pal. They need D but they don't need to sell the farm for a guy like Phaneuf.

Holland's inability to make the top 9 in TOR and ANA makes me think he wouldn't be a great option. You know what would be a good option? Drafting Draisaitl/Reinhart/Bennett to be that future 2C

What will the Oil give up? I may be the only Leaf fan who thinks Phanuef is a good D but has no to play with, so I hate him gone for nothing. A 20+ min a game guy who plays against top players is tough to replace. I think we need Eberle back or the 3rd overall pick. Even if we have to include other picks/players with Dion. I just hope their is a plan to replace him, cuz making Reilly our best D now is not something I look forward to as a Leaf fan

I am with you. I love Dion, and I think you can contribute 99% of his problems to playing with Carl Gunnarsson as his partner. A lot of people seem to forget that outside of the late season collapse, that Dion was absolutely, flat-out great for the other 3/4s of the season.

I would rather see the Leafs keep Holland to play 3C and not sign Bolland. I also believe Kadri will be traded if the Leafs do get a #1C and Bozak drops to 2C
