It may be. But with a new building under way and big plans ahead Oilers need to start winning. And dispite the hate Dion gets he's a solid D man oilers lack. I think a deal would help both clubs.

The latest rumour out of Edmonton is for Coburn out of Philly. Not saying he is better, but his contract makes him more appealing. And speaking of contracts, Erhoff's is a very nice hit (NMC ,I know).
Maybe there isn't a player of Dions calibre, but I think a couple solid vets that don't suck will be fine. I don't think we need Phaneuf so badly that we will pay a higher price than the Oilers want.

i totally think it's partly what i said for many fans. and not just of our team.
people get way too attached to their home team players.

but in our case, many even seem to be too worried to trade draft picks with visions of kopitar as our 2nd line center or weber on the backend in their head.

nuge was certainly more highly touted than any of the centers available, and he's still got a ton of development to become a dominant center. 3 years in. and how much longer till klefbom, nurse etc are true impact players? but we want to wait more and continue to draft for a few more seasons??!!!

i do think many expected way too much way too soon of these draft picks, and people should know that. even the best rookies rarely make any massive impact. and sophomore slumps are also pretty prevalent.

i trade the 2015 1st for the right top pairing guy that may have some warts without much hesitation.

maybe the 3rd alone in another sort of package. but there will be no core player PLUS the 3rd in a deal for phaneuf


yaks is gonna pretty much be boom or bust for us imo.
we value him way higher than maybe what his perceived value is.
so id guess we keep him and he booms and then we don't wanna trade him. or he busts and he wont be worth anything.

It is a bit far fetched but I know Edm needs to help their back end asap and leafs need to do something,anything! I think anything can still happen even though it probably wont happen.

Imagine if it did though. A few years ago giving up Stajan, Myers, Hagman and White for Phaneuf and turned that into yaki and a 3rd overall. Too good to be true most likely

nobody knows...but bashing others opinion and prediction is stupid. I've said to him many times that you can't say/ predict what's gonna happen. Apparently to him, Phaneuf isn't getting traded and we aren't moving up, period, end of discussion.

all I was saying is anything can happen, and IN MY OPINION, Phaneuf should be dealt, but he kept trying to make me think he was right.

I think what most people here are forgetting is first off the coach for edmonton used to coach the marlies so he has a little more knowledge of torontos prospects im thinking Dion and some prospects ( maybe unfortuntly a Percy or Granberg ) could be goin to edmonton for #3 pick and prospects toronto needs either a big #1 center which Edmonton wont give up ( hopkins) or a #1 defenceman ( Edmonton doesnt have one )
so Edmonton will have to give up a young stud either Eberle or one of thier young defenceman that are up and coming (Nurse)
otherwise the trade doesnt make any sence for either team to do
