roster over... - aries1976
You are preaching to the choir. I think Vancouver had one of the worst teams last year. |

Agreed. I don't think Phaneuf is the best option or the only option for the Oil, nor do I actually believe the Leafs want to move him. - Jeropotato
Tough Call for Oil management. majority of higher named D-man have some sort of NMC or NTC built into there contract, and if the past is any indication, how many of them would be willing to go to Edmonton? Tough call.
Being a team with potential only means something to the fans, and I think the Oilers have been labeled that way for 5 years now, with minimal improvement over those 5 years... what can the Oil do next?.... if a D-man like Phaneuf comes available and can be acquired without the consent of a trade, management has to consider all routes...
is Phaneuf a top 20 d-man in the NHL, that's debatable, some will say Yes, some will say No... is he a top 20 offensive D-man, if you go by Points, then yes... is he a top 20 defensively, easy answer is No.... but in Fairness to Phaneuf, he played very tough minutes this year and ran out of steam, ideal situation for him is top 2 minutes for offense, and middle 2 pairing on defense, he shouldn't be thee shut down guy, but able enough to take that role from time to time, he did it well for the first 60 games....
as a leaf fan, I expect Shanny/Nonis to do a few things this off-season, Shanny has to put his imprint early in his reign, especially to please a very picky fan base. |

Big splashes are harder to do these days . Fan bases can hope and fantasize but most GMs now know draft good and develop. |

The latest rumour out of Edmonton is for Coburn out of Philly. Not saying he is better, but his contract makes him more appealing. And speaking of contracts, Erhoff's is a very nice hit (NMC ,I know).
Maybe there isn't a player of Dions calibre, but I think a couple solid vets that don't suck will be fine. I don't think we need Phaneuf so badly that we will pay a higher price than the Oilers want. |

You are comaring Dion to Subban Weber Drew D ,Chara Suter?
Not even close.
next level down would be Keith Seabrook go one lower
Go down to the Hamuis level and that is where Phanuef sits. Hamhuis gets paid 4.6 - vancouverdawg

Management celebrate for about a week and then back to business. I'm sure they still were thinking about next year between games, it's the job. |

This is shaping up to be a busy off-season if the reports and speculation mean anything. I would think that if anyone really wanted to shore up their center ice position, there will be plenty of opportunity.
Too bad Defensemen are not so easy to acquire. |

What about an experienced guy like Mitchell? he won't cost you picks . - vancouverdawg
Could totally use him. He was great in the playoffs.
Would even overpay for him short term.
Just responding that we dont just need defensive guys on the backend.
A two way guy that can help with tge breakout is every bit as vital. if not more so |
