Yes that his his source. Do you understand now? You know what? You seem to think you know what's going on around the NHL. You must know many scouts and people working in the nhl to give you info. Why don't you get a job as an anylist, writer or something who gives out info from your sources. Maybe get a job on HB like Eklund?

easy fella.

you're just gonna have to come to terms with the fact that the rumour game is a business.
it's more hype and interest pieces than anything else.
without even getting into the logic of how a rumour would get out if a gm didn't actually want it too, there are very few guys who are truly on the inside.

also, being in the business does not mean you are an expert by any means. in fact, many of them are flat out clueless.

im not trying to diss you, but possibly some more logical thought might be in order while investigating the process of the rumour game

This reminds me of the Luongo to Toronto rumours and how Leaf fans and Nucks fans would battle on end over the value and player exchanges needed to make a deal happen. All for nothing.

but you can see the obvious jump from "possibly spoke to" TO "definitely want"
these are worlds apart. literally.

but which makes for a better story do you think?

I could see the oilers being interested in phaneuf and I think this is how it all works to begin with.
apply some logic,
look for a situation that it could make sense....
make rumour

but cmon man. you have to see the ridiculousness of the whole game.
eklund throws sh1t against the wall all the time. 99% of the time it doesn't stick

Both sides had a ton of fun at the opposing fan bases expense.

Wow, Phanuef would be exactly what the Oilers do NOT need right now. They need defensive d-men, the team plays no defense.

Yup.

I was disappointed that when I was in your city last week I didn't see any buildings burning. I did see East Hastings however, which is arguably worse

(Despite that, holy (frank) what a beautiful city down near the convention centre )

How is Phaneuf not what they need? The guy plays the toughest minutes in the NHL. He is solid defensively.

They do. But they need Dmen with experience also.

Thing is, for a team to play good defensive hockey it takes a team effort. The solution is never to bring in one player and expect a miraculous turn around. The Oilers, like the Leafs, need to play better defensive hockey if they plan on contending/competing. But that is never going to happen without a strong system, well coached team, and an effort from every player on the ice.

Could the Oilers use Phaneuf sure they can. But he isn't going to solve anything on his own for them. Just like how Phaneuf seems to take all the blame in Toronto, and to a degree should given hes the Captain and is overpaid, but he was being blamed for everything despite being the teams best Dmen most every night. The rest of the roster got off scott free, yet did little to help with the defensive side of the game.

I agree with that 2nd para 100%.

I think the leafs problem was system, not personnel.

Every team used to be good at one time. Sens suck these days. Same boat as Oilers and Toronto...worse off in my opinion to be honest.
