Hmm i'd not be against him coming to Edmonton, but not at the price a lot of leafs fans are asking. Firstly his contract isn't the best, he's not a plug, he's a very good D actually but he's not on the level of 7M a year.and that also goes for what the leaf fans are asking, if you want eberle plus the 3rd plus prospects you'd better have a shea Weber or Ryan Getslaf that just isn't happening. If the oilers move the the 3rd this year for phenuf fans will burn kats house to the ground, if that pick is going anywhere it's in a package for an ELETE number ONE D not a very good number 2 or 3 I see something more like this

as an oilers fan, I still feel this is an overpayment but it's nowhere near the level of an overpayment as eberle plus the 3rd. I see the oilers still picking ekblad if he's there and going after a center through the market whitch is very deep this year. If he's not they pick one of bennet or drassiniti whitch ever one is still on the board (my hope is drassiniti) sorry can't spell his name lol. I'd rather have one of those two players then phenuf and I think most oilers fans feel the same. Ekblad has higher upside then phenuf and drassiniti is a tank.

not trying to convince you of need or anything, but I actually think he can be more usefull beside size and some defensive acumen.
he doesn't need to be carried offensively. he's got fantastic hands and good offensive instincts.
but he's small and brutal in his own end.

It costs a lot for a top pairing defensmen. They aren't easy to get. The Oilers obviously want him bad. So they have to overpay to get him.

Phaneuf's a fine Dman and he'd definitely help EDM but he's not worth a top 3 pick no matter how you spin it
