Costa Rica's upset of Uruguay was infinitely more exciting than any playoff game between the Stars and Ducks.

Trying to sell the call is part of any game and some players do it more than others. It's not really about how tough they are, it's the fifa world cup, people are going to try their best to get every call to go in their favour (although why France needed to do it against Honduras is beyond me).

In the last decade this has occurred more often than you'd think but it's usually the referee's call. I've seen games in big tournaments where the ref just doesn't want to deal with any of it so he'll make an example of the 1st guy to do it and suddenly everyone's too afraid to fall

My biggest hatred of it is when players do it in the 90th minute to defend a lead like (frank)ing Ivory Coast the other day. If you really believe you're good enough to be in the world cup than why the (frank) do you need to pretend to be dead just to kill of 5 minutes? They were playing Japan, and while they are a respectable opponent, they're not Germany or Portugal.
