Adrian Kempe is a Flyers type of player. Kevin Fiala is not (unless they think his scoring upside is that of a first-line NHL player).

I think it might be a troll account, actually.

Can't believe it took me this long, to be honest.

The lack of speed is a glaring issue. The lack of any solid ability in playing the puck for several members of the proposed top six is a glaring issue. I'm not saying rush out and add somebody because he has a name, but there are options out there that are better than what they have...and honestly, if it means getting a legit first pair guy that can do a lot and play in all situations, do it, even if it is expensive.

Even if it's only a minor upgrade, it has to be considered. They need to improve the back end. It can be done and done intelligently in short term or even stop gaps that make the mix better than it currently is now.

As far as left wing, why trade for a veteran scorer? I submit Matt Read. Guy scores 20+ goals, playing against top competition, in a shut down role. There's no need to use assets to fill a position that can likely be filled from within.

With the addition of Pierre Bellemare, they might already have a capable third line replacement for Read, and I think a third line of Bellemare, Couturier & Raffl could be pretty solid, if Bellemare can adapt to the NHL. They also have Scott Laughton in the mix.

If none of those float your boat, it's generally easier and cheaper to add a good 3rd liner than a 1st or 2nd line scoring winger. If you're going to make a move address areas of real need. LW is a need, but it should be able to be handled as a secondary need. Defense is a real and major need.

The fact of the matter is McDonald was the minor that was considered and followed through with. Streit was the puck moving defenseman we ran out and traded for right after we weren't producing enough offense one year ago when we didn't make the playoffs. Management has tried to improve the mix but as stated, it will not be an easy or quick fix, simply because it hasn't been so far. The evidence has been staring at us right in the face this whole time. Chances are that if another minor deal is made, nothing will change. The team as a whole has to start woking as a unit to make life easier on themselves. Stop cheating and support the puck carrier and not make risky pssses or plays. It won't matter who's on defense if the team doesn't do this.

I think when someone suggests Schenn and Grossmann aren't good with the puck and suggests that we need to upgrade, that's like suggesting they're not NHL defenseman, which is bull. Coburn and McDonald cannot be placed in the same class as just defensive defenseman like Grossmann and Schenn as redundancy because both skate well and carry the puck just fine. They just don't register the same point totals as a defenseman who has a natural gift for offense from the blueline. There is a different mix, it's just not a perfect mix or maybe just not a perfect system.

As for Matt Read filling a more offensive role. I wouldn't split him from Couturier because they've worked together for so long and are working very well at shutting down other teams more offensive players. If you want Couturier's offense to shine through, Couturier needs offensively gifted players to play with. Now if you would like to add cheap players your guaranteed cheap results. If you wanna make minor moves, expect minor results.

I just think one of schenn or grossmann should be traded because they are redundant types of players here and a shot needs to be open for a kid to get a chance to play.

Everyone has the right to their opinion. I personally think Coburn and McDonald are more alike, with Coburn being the better player. I feel Grossmann and Schenn are alike with Grossmann being the better player. I don't think all four are alike. Is having six defenseman who skate well and play with the puck well a redundancy?
