The Situation is not that different in Phoenix. While yes, Spezza would be the number one, a 1-2-3 of Spezza, Hanzal and Vermette has potential to be among the leagues best centre combos. Vermette is a great third line centre and Hanzal, should he stay healthy, has high potential as well. - James_Tanner

You're willing to give up Gormley, Samuelsson AND the 12th pick for Jason Spezza? Hold on let me go read that again... I think I read that wrong.... Huh nope, I think that's what it says. Alright don't get me wrong here, I like Spezza... take him every year in my draft. That being said... he's 30 something, inconsistent and injured half the time. With rumors of Thornton and Kessler on the market, the price for Spezza should be lower as well. You could get him for Gormley and the 12th.
That being said I'm a Flyer fan.... so I'll offer you this: Brayden Schenn and the 17th for Brandon Gormley and the 12th. Schenn may not produce as much as Spezza (this year) but he's getting better, is like 21, hits and is due for a break out season. Heck we'll throw in Luke Schenn for Lessio and a second. He may be slow but the guy steps right in to that last third pairing, hits like a train and fights. Let me know... I'll call Hextall. |

Hopefully, I made it really clear that I have no idea what it would cost to get him. There are - as I see it anyways - arguments that are good for his value being high and his value being low. Who really knows?
All I was saying was that I'd give that much up for him if I was the Coyotes. If I'm not incorrect, Murray wants the price he paid for Bobby Ryan, and that's a pick and two players. Can he get that? Beats me. Maybe, probably not.
However, I think the Coyotes have to take risks, and this isn't a very big one, compared to the reward. If Spezza is healthy he is one of the most consistent players of the last decade. 30 is no big deal, he's still got a few good to excellent years in him i'd bet. Plus, don't think that 4 million real dollars 7 million cap hit isn't extremely attractive to the Coyotes.
I'm just spitballing anyways , you know as much as I do and could very well be right. |

I agree that spezza has in jury problems, but if you think he's inconsistent, then you know nothing about the player.
As for Brayden scheme, he's actually about to turn 23 (not 21), and looks like he won't be much more than a decent 2nd line player. He's a good player, but nowhere close to being as good as spezza, not now, not ever. |

I think it's more likely that you don't know what "consistent" means.
He has almost 700 points, in 700 games. This means that basically, every game he plays, he gets one point. The very definition of consistent. |

I think you need to talk to an Ottawa fan. He gets four points one game and then disappears for three. Their is a reason why Ottawa fans are happy he's leaving. |

Schenn's a power forward, and they take longer to develop, look at JVR. He's also younger and players tougher. That being said ya he'll never be the player Spezza WAS. Spezza is far from the player that was putting up 90 point seasons, he'll be a sixty point scorer for the five or six years that he remains in the league and he'll be injured for a majority of two of them. I could easily see Schenn hitting 60 points a season in the next two years. |

Spezza had a bad year, and still put up 66pts in 75 games. The final 3rd of the season, after acquiring hemsky he was playing at a better than ppg pace.
With the right line mates (not plugs like greening and Michalek) spezza will easily put up 80 pts.
Nobody in Ottawa is happy to see him go, but fans understand that given the teams financial constraints, and the fact that they're probably 3 or so years away from being able to start being a contender in the east.......it's in everyone's best interest to part ways |

I'm an Ottawa fan and no that's not the reason he's disliked by some. That's not even remotely accurate.
