It would be circumventing the CBA if we buy out a contract for a team such as Philly who already used their two buyouts. I could see the NHL stepping in afterwards, and penalizing both the Sabres and the Flyers in a situation like that.

Actually on second thought i could see them doing that. I would think that the Sabres would ask the league for a ruling before hand. My thought though has always been that Murray will look for those kinds of trades to reach the floor while retaining an asset or two vs giving a long term deal to an FA.

I'd rather have a guy like Marchand, who can play the agitator role and score than someone like Kaleta or Scott, who has no offensive talent to speak of, or who has no talent to speak of respectively. That being said: the most ideal scenario, like a lot of options brought on here lately is "none of the above".

I doubt he'd be very effective here without being shielded by Boston's two way game and good possession numbers. When we get our own Bergeron and Krejci than maybe but right now it'd just be a waste of assets as it will likely take an overpayment to get him.

However, to say a 26-year-old 20-30 goal scorer is useless is just plain incorrect. He has much more trade value than Drew Stafford, even the mythical contract-year Ted Nolan protege Drew Stafford.

Sam Reinhart isn't going to step into the league as an 18 year old just dominate. It may be a while. He (Marchand) is succeeding because of a well balanced lineup which we are nowhere close to yet. IMO it's a little early to be thinking about those players.
