So the Sabres have now become a cash for gold institution. Well done.
- TheSabresTaco

The key is the pick. I see it as navigating the fine areas of the CBA to drive advantage for your club. It's smart. Bet Collin Campbell kaiboshes it ASAP, however.

If the Sabres dont buyout the player or doesnt intend to buy it out i dont see how he could.

I meant the scenario where they basically trade their buyout availability for a 1st rounder.

**Trade Ehrhoff & Grigorenko to Det, for Gustov Nyquist**

(Sabres eat some of Ehrhoff's contract)

I thought someone can't own both an NHL and NFL team.

If that's the case, and T-Pegs successfully buys the Bills, what happens to ownership of the Sabres?

- OnPoint

Someone can own and NFL and other team that are in the same market, OR if (as in the case of a team like Columbus or say OK City NBA) in a town where the other league does not compete against the NFL team. So in essence, whoever owns the Blue Jackets can own the Bills, because there is no NFL team in Columbus (not counting OH St.)

Plural means they'd be interested in doing that multiple times...which would mean Leino will still be here.
- buffalofan19

They would use a regular buyout on Leino, therefore they have some cap number left over to help them get to the floor. Then they could use the compliance buyouts on other players.

I can't see a scenario, though, where another GM sees that as worth a 1st rounder.

"Buffalo was the highest-rated market in the regular season for NBC and NBCSN’s national games and, with Sabres games, generated the second-highest local cable rating in the N.H.L. (Pittsburgh had the highest.)"

Says it all

“They love the sport, and they’re watching because it’s entertainment,” he said. “They love having a villain, so if it was the Bruins playing, they’d be rooting for whoever’s against them. And they’d love to see Toronto lose. But this is a lifestyle.”

So the real question then is

If i told you keeping Leino and Weber would bring in two first round picks, would you do it? I'd have to think about it which pretty much says all you need to know about those two.

Wouldn't surprise me if they kept that "bad contract" as a means of getting to the floor, especially if it's short term.

Tampa was willing to trade it's 3rd overall pick so that the leafs could buyout and Vinny and they could then re-sign. I know it's not entirely the same but they were willing to give up an incredible player just to ditch his contract.

leino's contract will be up when it is time to start competing and we need to sign some of these young guys to real contracts.

Key language in this many forget...

Buffalo is the 52nd-largest market in the United States, which means that a substantial rating does not mean a lot of people are watching. For Game 1 of the finals, for instance, Buffalo’s 8.5 rating equaled about 54,000 households; the game’s 10.1 rating in New York was the equivalent of 746,000 households.

Buffalos % may be higher, but the # of households reached can/will be lower then those of Boston, Philly, ETC with a slightly lower rating

Brad Marchand for Patty Marleau?

http://www.csnne.com/bost...ble-marchand-marleau-deal

The Sabres really need to be kicking the tires on Marchand as well.

#63 in the black n' yellow played his junior hockey under Teddy Nolan, and attributes much of his success to the Sabres bench boss.

The 26 yr old goal scorer would project well as a top 6 forward for this young club. He's already on board with Nolan's philosophy, & would fit right in. I'd love to see him playing on a line with Girgensons.

Chara is getting older, while Dougie Hamilton is still wet behind the ears.. Ehrhoff could bridge that gap nicely.

i think another key thing is that they are only looking at buffalo.. i would assume they do not include the 'burbs.. Buffalo's population is 260,000.. for perspective Fort Wayne Indiana 255,000.

I think the leafs did a pretty good job getting fleeced by the bruins I don't think we need to help them. Besides Marchand is dust anyways
