I thought I read somewhere that Terry Pegula grew up a Detroit Lions fan. I wonder if that means if, should he win the bid, Chris Spielman have a job in the front office.
- buffalofan19

He fits perfect in the lineage of Bills ownership. It just means we'll keep playing the Lions every pre-season.

That may or may not be. I guess my underlying point is that a mere bid from Pegula doesn't guarantee ownership of the team.

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun but I think Pegula's latest 1.7B business endeavor means he is in it to win it.

this is a good thing for Buffalo. I'm not an NFL fan at all, but Pegula tends to listen to his staff and he has the cash to do the right thing. I wonder what the plan would be for a new arena....considering what he's doing with the harbor center right now?

I would think so too. If he doesn't win the bid, I don't think it will be from a lack of effort on his part. I would think other forces would be at work.

They're going to convert it to a 70,000 seat football stadium.

Nice job, enjoyed reading this. You have to think if he does get the bills would that mean buffalo would be getting another winter classic as well. Wouldn't be an issue to get permission to use the stadium if it's the same owner.

I don't think permission was ever the issue. It was more that the NHL would rather be somewhere else.

And if there are other forces keeping him away the entire thing is rigged anyways.

My biggest hope (and a pipe dream) is that the new Bills stadium is predominately privately funded. I just don't think it is worth the public money to pour into a stadium that's primary function is 8 games per year.

I think that Western NY will be buying into the NFL at its highest point and most costliest. I think this point in time will be known as the apex of American football.

Between the over saturation of the product and the real growing concern of concussions (Mom's not letting Johnny play football) I can' only see the NFL's power shrinking as time moves on. It will always be strong, just not this strong.

Big issue is which county the stadium will be built in. Niagara County could fund more than Erie, especially if the stadium is built in Niagara Falls (which I'm not a huge fan of)

If Pegula were to buy the Bills and put a stadium downtown, I'd imagine a huge portion would be privately funded

I believe Mark Cuban actually said the same thing. The NFL has reached its peak. It can't get any bigger.

However, I'm not so sure the concussion issue is going to be as much of a hindrance as people think. It may be in regions like ours, but in the states where high school and college football are an institution, that notion will be slow, if it exists at all. And if it does, it bodes poorly for the game of hockey, because that's the next sport that would be targeted.

Someone tell the NFL that.

I have a theory that at some point they will collapse from within

If they do get into London, it will be a sign that it's trying to take over soccer as the world's premier sport. It won't work, simply because the game isn't played globally, but it won't stop them from trying.

Absolutely agree. Team owners sell a new stadium to the taxpayer hook line and sinker.....sure, theres temporary construction jobs, but all the jobs within the old arena just move to the new one....and thats at the cost of hundreds of millions to the taxpayer
...i could see pegula just forgo the BS and build with his own money.

Ever have one of those 'Buffalo Curse' moments where you want to grab Pegula and shake him and say "Don't you know the Bills and Sabres can not and will never win anything...don't waste all your cash fanboy!"?

I mean, I'm a lifer Sabres fan but it kinda makes me sick to my stomach to think of Ville Leino getting 7+million to walk away. Then picking up salary to get to the $53 million floor....arghh! (yes, I know this makes sense, but arghh!).

I hadn't read this one til now (sorry if it's a re-tread):

Bob McKenzie: “The Sabres are willing to buy first round picks by taking on big salary and then giving that player a compliance buyout” … “Tim Murray has let that be known to other teams”
