Haha. As much fun as that would be, could you imagine the problem in 3 more years when it turns into a cheerleading section for the teams as the owner of the newspaper also owns both teams?

didn't the tribune own the cubs?

the two biggest players both have sabres ties--former owner tom golisano and present owner terry Pegula...not sure if they're in concert with each other or not, but they both have strong convictions about keeping the teams in western new york
- Michael Pachla

Judging by Golisano's comments, his interest is stemmed by the fact that if they were in danger of leaving, he'd get involved. I would think that he knows that should Pegula purchase the team, there's no danger of them leaving. The only danger in this whole thing is if the NFL doesn't approve him as an owner. I don't see why they wouldn't, unless the league is hell bent on getting out of the Buffalo market (currently #52 in television markets).

I can't stand Harrington. He has surpassed Sullivan in my eyes for most out of touch grudge holding "reporter".

His behavior at press conferences and how he conducts himself on twitter just takes the cake.

I believe they did, and I believe the same criticisms came about.

It's not illegal or anything. I'm just saying you'd probably end up with the same problem, just at the other end of the spectrum.

Gotta give it up to Golisano, pretty awesome moves by him to save/keep the franchises here, regardless of what happened during his ownership.

EDIT: Ugh..I said "here"...

There is also the possibility that another non-local owner outbids him. I doubt the PBR guy does. Perhaps the Bon-Jovi/Rogers/MLSE/whoeverelseupinToronto contingent could.

if i'm not mistaken there's some wording in Wilson's will (?) where it doesn't necessarily depend upon the highest bidder...need help on this one, though

Golisano also said he wouldn't overbid for the team, which I understand. Also when Golisano cut payroll and dropped all that veteran talent it hurt our team and our fans, but he was right. The out of control spending in the NHL led to another lockout. His model would have served the league so much better but teams spend money emotionally. 7 million plus a year contracts should be reserved for only the most elite players but instead are handed out like candy.

That may or may not be. I guess my underlying point is that a mere bid from Pegula doesn't guarantee ownership of the team.

Nice. I'm assuming this is some kind of Dead cover band? I'm not a huge Dead fan but a good friend of mine is. I'll let him know. Pretty sure Im busy Tuesday though.

I thought I read somewhere that Terry Pegula grew up a Detroit Lions fan. I wonder if that means if, should he win the bid, Chris Spielman have a job in the front office.

This is true, however highest bid doesn't necessarily win either. The owners have to approve the bid based what they think is best for the league. While we know LA would be good for the league, Pegula's track record of commitment and available assets bode well.
