I dont think you can call it a bust. Theres almost no risk.
- PhillySportsGuy

Lol, nobody here even knew his name a week ago, and suddenly there are expectations for him.

There isn't any risk. But he if he doesn't make it in the NHL, then he's a bust as a player.

So are you saying that it is wrong for anyone to have expectations for a player the Flyers just signed?

So the devils have hired analytical guru Mehta. I was hoping by now to read about any shakeups in the flyers organization with hextall coming in. Kind of surprised there's been no changes to scouting or anything like that. Guess we'll wait and see

Cammalleri to give G a shooter? Price might be a sticking point though.

I guess if you want to call it that. I just don't have very high expectations for him.

I view busts as guys who are expected to be very good players and end up being bad players.

But I think taking a guy who is bigger (all other things equal, hypothetically) is actually the wrong course of action. If there's a guy who can do things on the ice at that age level as well as a guy three inches and 30 lbs. bigger than him, I want the smaller guy. He's likely much more talented.

- bradleyc4

There's a contradiction here. If two guys can do things equally as well, how is one more talented? If all things are equal talent wise, it would be foolish to take the smaller player over the bigger player, if there is a significant difference in size. Because that would be the one thing that separates the two players, with all else being equal.

I see your point, but that's really just semantics over what a bust is. My expectations are that I'm hoping he can add some speed and skill to the Flyers bottom 6, along with his reported solid two way play. I think that kind of player could help the Flyers.

Whatever they get out of Pedobear is pure gravy... 29-yo, $600k two-way... aside from taking up a roster spot, I don't see any way we could be disappointed with the signing, even if he's terrible on the ice, much less as good as Thoresen.

Yeah. It will be disappointing if he doesn't display NHL ability, but I don't think it will break the team.

No such thing as not being disappointed with a player, if he is terrible on the ice. That's not reality.

Thoreson played all of 21 games for the Flyers.

Oh there'll be people to find a way to be very disappointed if this guy doesn't work out. That's just how the fan base is

I don't think they can afford to mess with the scouting structure so close to the draft... maybe Hexy fiddles w/ the pro-scouting dept in the meantime, but I think all the am-scouts are safe until the end of June, at least.

Of course it won't, because there isn't any risk. But the flip side is that he could potentially help the team just as Raffl did.

Doing something well vs. weaker/smaller competition doesn't necessarily hold up as well as you move up in levels of play.

Pedobear? Really? We're going with this?

... and he managed in that short time after he was traded to leave an indelible mark:

Thoresen is/was twice as talented as Bellemare, btw. He's like Norwegian Sidney Crosby, lol.

For every St. Louis and Giroux though, aren't there countless small guys with lots of skill that never make it? We don't really quantify their failure versus the success of the ones who do make it.

I think the current scouts should get at least this draft and the next. The Flyers have finally started to draft defense over the last few years. They have always done a good job drafting forwards in my opinion.

They seemingly will keep more draft picks in the future as well. So hopefully quantity will lead to some late round gems.
