So they can't add another ref because they don't want them comparing Richards on the field? - PhillySportsGuy
Not the refs but rather the players would run back and forth between officials begging them to protet them from the "other" evil/incompetent ref. So it's not that I wouldn't trust the refs but rather it would add additional drama to a game desperately in need of eliminating it. They spend enough time getting up in the refs face after a call (good or bad).
My fiance calls yellow cards "post-its" which always makes me laugh. Cuz many times those post-its say "get out of my face and get back to playing the game!"
I'm not defending the refs - they are probably some of the worst in sports. But the players don't make it easy.
On a side note I adore the shaving cream btw. As a ref I used to hate players creeping up on a free kick. |

(frank). So, if the Flyers utilize LTIR, they will be forced the carry Kimmo's $2M next year? This assuming he reaches the incentives. |

I just saw that too. Such a smart idea. Can't believe it took this long to figure out. |

American leagues have been using it for awhile just international ones which have been slow to adopt it. |

Not necessarily. Here's what happens basically with a player place on LTIR. If they do it properly to get the full benefit of the LTIR exemption for Pronger. What happens is the team's upper limit is essentially raised. So for example, the cap is 71.1M. Pronger's Cap hit is $4,941,429. So essentially the Flyers upper limit would now become $76,021,429. At the end of the season, as long as all cap expenditures fit under that number, including Pronger's Cap hit, all is good.
Chances are there is going to be an overage. But we have to see what the Flyers do the rest of the off season. A lot can change in the next few months. |

Ok. I think I originally read it incorrectly. |

Trade:
Schenn , Schenn and #17 to the Blues. They need a second line center
K.Shattenkirk , Paajarvi and #21
I don't think anyone will take Vinny.
Maybe Dallas they wanted him last season.
Hextall said he might have to take back a lesser player to move some contracts
Horcoff and Rome for Vinny and Grossman.

Hextall is off to a damned fine start as Flyers GM.
Lands a potentially good third liner for $600K & re-signs last year's best defenseman for peanuts and a bonus.

Love that Timonen is back. But if there is an overage on the following seasons cap, some might not be happy about that.

Agreed I was worried they would try and keep him in the 6M range and he has lost too much speed for that. 2M which could go as high as 4M is a wonderful signing. Play him protected minutes, give him a couple kids to mentor. And I am pleased as punch with this signing. - FlyersGrace
Agreed -- really, if he took the pay cut...there really isn't much to complain about. At his age, it's almost as much about whether his heart is in it, because he clearly has reached a point where his physical limitations are obvious, and he knows what they are.
The Flyers would really be well served if MacDonald-Schenn becomes a pair who takes on tougher minutes and is net neutral, at worse. We can't keep hiding Schenn at 16 minutes for much longer, that's for sure -- though I was encouraged with how he played against the Rags in the playoffs. |

Agreed. Loving everything hes done so far. Im curious what Kimmo would have gotten with Homer still running the ship. Too bad we'll never know |

No doubt in my mind Hextall promised him a cup. That's why he signed for 2m.

Probably about the same. Here's the deal as I see with the Timonen signing. Love that he's back. Flyers are certainly a better team with him, then without him. But the contract while not bad, is certainly not great.
An example is the Boston Bruins. Fans probably loved it when they signed Jerome Iginla last off season. What a deal they probably felt. Well now the Bruins got knocked out, and fell short. And there's going to be a 3.5-4M bonus overage that the Bruins are going to have to carry on the Cap.
Now a bonus overage for Timonen is not a guarantee. But the odds of it are high. So the question is, should a team that is probably not a legitimate contender, be risking a fairly large bonus overage, to bring back Timonen? I think an argument can be made for no to that.

Also Vinny is a 20 goal scorer making 4m. You will be able to trade him for something. Why you people want to give him away is dumb |

Go (frank) yourself Holmgren. Think I got 50% erection reading that he is back for such a low cap hit.

I'm amazed that Holmgren is vilified when Timonen signed a deal that a lot of people foresaw. As if Holmgren would've given him a raise, but the master negotiator Ron Hextall talked him down.

It's not really dumb. The value in trading Lecavalier is the gained cap space.

You think 2M against a future cap will be that painful?
heck, the cap should go up around double that if revenue keeps pace.
and, his likely replacement would be a young guy on a relatively inexpensive ELC.
I would be nice to not have that overage be there, but 2M for kimo Iisn't the what, 4M for iggy. |

Trading Vinny for a 7th is dumb. Trading Vinny for a piece your team needs isn't. Look how many teams have been reported interested . |

Know what they can do with the cap space gained if they can trade Lecavalier for a 7th round pick? Add a piece the team needs.

Would you rather have vinny scoring 20 or try to add a d man?
let a young guy that needs experience take vinny ' s minutes so they can develop.
I was completely pro vinny when they signed him.
He just doesn'tseem to fit Iinto chief's system |
