Why is there only 1 on field ref? Why not add another? - PhillySportsGuy
Becuase it works so well in hockey? So much still goes unnoticed and bad calls still get made with 2 refs. |

linesman to call offsides and can be consulted on anything the ref feels he needs help with. Video replay on goals (just on whether they are or are not in, not anything about how they got there).

Timonen clearly took less to stay in Philadelphia. Would have made more than that on the open market. - PhillySportsGuy
I love Kimmo. I really do.
I don't consider him in that elite tier of favorite Flyers, but it just now hit me that it's silly I don't even give him an honorable mention |

Signs a nice depth 2-way winger for minimal money.
Resigns Kimmo for a VERY resonable one year extension.
Apparently talking to VL's agent about possible trades and seems commmited to youth.
So far so good Hexy. - JonnyHammerstix

Incentive laden- probably on games played... just like I wanted. Beautiful, if this is the case. - Giroux_Is_God
A deal with bonuses is a double edge sword. Helps with the Cap for this year. But could lead to bonus overage penalties the following season.

He could have gotten more, but he is, in all likelihood, getting $4M. That extra $2M will count against next year's cap. |

My understanding is that he counts as $2M this year. Any incentives he reaches will be applied to our cap this coming year if we have room under the bonus cushion; whatever he reaches that pushes us over the bonus cushion will be applied to the following season's cap.
I could be wildly wrong, but that's how I understand it. - dilbert719
I think you have it pretty much correct.

But it's still arbitrary, and rather silly.
Just stop the clock and avoid the arbitrary-ness - Giroux_Is_God
In hockey, the timekeeper is an employee of the home team. I think clocks in hockey are pretty arbitrary, too. So don't you think having the official in charge of the clock rather than some random time-keeper is a good thing? (of course, there are way more stoppages in hockey, so having the on-ice official do it isn't really doable). |

Any young prospect Dman that finds their way onto the big club should be paired with Kimmo. I can't think of a better on-ice mentor than him. As smart a Dman as I've ever seen play the game. |

I still think they should add one more. Many of the plays happen so far away from any referee. |

True but whos knows what the max cap will be next year or what the state of the team will be next year. I guess theyll cross that bridge when the time comes. For now I love the signing |

Yeah. I like the signing too.
Assuming we need to retain $1.5M in order to move VL, we will have $8.5M of cap space dedicated to 3 players who won't be playing in 2015-16 for the Flyers. (Pronger, Kimmo, VL) |

It's not the same thing.
Soccer refs say "3 minutes sounds good" and then actually end the game when it "looks ok" i.e. after the defense kicks the ball 300 feet down the field.
It's so...meh.
Each soccer game is a different length, probably by a few minutes too. Which is ridiculous. Fine, go head an argue pressing the button takes a half second off the time, but you see refs all the time go to Toronto to reset the clock to the time it needs to be set to.
I'm done with soccer. I'll watch the world cup and that's about it. Sports are like music. I think house music is terrible, but there's no sense arguing about it with someone who likes to listen to it because nothing is going to change. |

Thought the same thing. With Alt, Ghost, Morin, and Hagg all likely to be in the locker room and working out with the team for at least a few weeks in the fall, it's good to know a guy like Kimmo is there with them |
