Kimmo Timonen signs a one-year deal with Flyers. Base salary in the $2 million range could be worth close to $4 million with bonuses.

If true, Kimmo is my hero.

Incentive laden- probably on games played... just like I wanted. Beautiful, if this is the case.

How does this work from a cap perspective? Beer dig deep on how bonuses work.

Are these players you speak of clutching their legs and rolling around in excrutiating pain?
- jmatchett383

Typically if they are 3rd or 4th liners they are. It amazes me how many times I've yelled "I thought you were dead" at a player this past season.

I think the bonuses will be very easy to achieve, but that's fine if the max value is around $4 million.

Timonen clearly took less to stay in Philadelphia. Would have made more than that on the open market.

My understanding is that he counts as $2M this year. Any incentives he reaches will be applied to our cap this coming year if we have room under the bonus cushion; whatever he reaches that pushes us over the bonus cushion will be applied to the following season's cap.

I could be wildly wrong, but that's how I understand it.

I think all sports have embellishment. Soccer seems to have more than all other sports though. You can't watch 5 minutes of a game without seeing a dive.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yes. It is annoying. But I'd argue Hockey, with fewer players and faster pace, is catching up fast.

Ok, not to pour it on here, but that's the most ridiculous thing about soccer.

To my understanding, the ref quite litrilly says "Ok sooooooooooo this game, all the time spent not playing due to throw ins/corner kicks/fouls etc was PROBABLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY 3 minutes. Seems legit. GO!"

Why not just stop the clock?

- Giroux_Is_God

It might be similar to Jagr's deal last season.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcs...nk-jagr-to-one-year-deal/

The New Jersey Devils have officially announced the signing of veteran forward Jaromir Jagr — a one-year deal with a $2 million base salary.

According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, the remainder of the deal is more complex. Jagr gets a $250,000 bonus for every five games played from 10 to 45, meaning there’s potential for an additional $2 million in bonus money.

So all told, the contract could be worth around $4 million for 2013-14.

Why is there only 1 on field ref? Why not add another?

Signs a nice depth 2-way winger for minimal money.

Resigns Kimmo for a VERY resonable one year extension.

Apparently talking to VL's agent about possible trades and seems commmited to youth.

So far so good Hexy.

But it's still arbitrary, and rather silly.

Just stop the clock and avoid the arbitrary-ness
