Soccer gets a bad wrap in the us, but it's a global sport that's obsessed over in many countries. People like to point at all the diving, but you can say the same in hockey and in hockey you are supposed to get hit. - funmaster18
And although there is diving there is also legitimate impact. If you doubt it look at the replays of the guy having both his tibia and fibula broken on a straight tackle in the Mexico Columbia "friendly" a couple of weeks ago. Brutal. |

Gar gar argh hitting = good - funmaster18
No, it was actually something exciting, and worthy of a guy lying on the ground. Instead of watching 22 guys run back and forth for 90 minutes (plus arbitrary extra time) and flopping all over the field, it was different. |

Yes. I'm sure about 1 out of every 80-or-so horrible injuries where players are writhing in pain, only to get up and be able to run at full speed mere seconds later, is legit. |

Speaking of size, if this guy is available in the draft I would draft him. Guy gets it done!! Not big, but has serious heart.
- hockeylover Needs dry island, though.

The call was beyond disgraceful. If the officiating was better, players would stop diving. Just like in the NHL today, players know they'll get a call or two if they dive. - funmaster18

I wonder if the Flyers are relatively quiet this offseason.
I would not mind if they could unload a contract or two to make some cap room, and maybe pick up a bottom six winger and exchange one of their "defensive" D men for a more rounded type player.
Consider signing Timmo after the season starts to a reasonable one year deal and see what happens. - Marc D
Here's what I see them doing:
- Unload Vinny for some picks (I guess, I don't know, but it looks like they have their eye set on Schenn so not much room for Vinny)
- Getting a 2nd pairing defensemen
- Resigning Timmo to 3 mil one yr
- Trading for a bottom 6 forward

I think all sports have embellishment. Soccer seems to have more than all other sports though. You can't watch 5 minutes of a game without seeing a dive. |

Ok, not to pour it on here, but that's the most ridiculous thing about soccer.
To my understanding, the ref quite litrilly says "Ok sooooooooooo this game, all the time spent not playing due to throw ins/corner kicks/fouls etc was PROBABLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY 3 minutes. Seems legit. GO!"
Why not just stop the clock? |

It's not even 3 minutes. It's 3 minutes, or until the ref decides to stop it because, well, he feels like it. But yes, a stopped clock would make logical sense. |
