The only Canadian market he might accept a trade to is toronto, and even then I have my doubts. Guy is tired of getting butchered in media, which comes with being a high paid player in a canadian market.

I don't think he would rule out Florida - easy to sell his wife on that move, no income tax plus gorgeous beaches etc.

I don't think he would rule out Nashville, they're really kind to star players, and his old buddy Mike Fisher has probably given him rave reviews.

I don't think he would rule out Dallas either, hockey loving market where he can comfortably step in behind Seguin and Benn without the whole offense on his shoulders, and that, too, is a great up and coming team.

@AJonSports: An NHL source tells me STL interest in Jason Spezza is serious & they are putting together a package that would include Patrik Berglund.

I like Smith. He makes other teams pay a price almost every shift. Berglund, Smith and Zibanejad would give Ottawa good size down the middle. Turris is okay, he has his playing weight up closer to 200lbs. Senators are starting to look more and more like a physical Brian Murray team.

Also expect to see Lazar, Stone and Peumple get some ice time this year. They all have nice size.

But, Murray is still missing the "hard" player that he has repeatedly said he wants to add.

Curios to see a Minnesota blogger speculating on the availability of Bobby Ryan this summer. This is not a bad thing. I believe Murray will sign Ryan to a long term deal on July 1st. But, there is no doubt that Melnyk's instability has cost the franchise significantly.

They would get a good return for Ryan. It would certainly put them into the McDavid sweeps.

But season ticket sales are already collapsing. Add Ryan to the exodus and any positive case financial projections will start to crumble.

Even the guys stopping Melnyk from spending or pushing the sale of his horses would become alarmed. New ownership is needed sooner rather than later.

They are going to come out of this in incredibly good shape. But, the summers are far too painful.

His stuff is pretty strong. Said Bonino was not happening when Garrioch first floated the name. Be interested if he comments on season ticket sales or box renewals. My guess is they are getting killed and they need to get the Spezza business finished in order to move forward.

Murray is probably under pressure from the business side to get the Spezza stuff finished as soon as possible as it is killing any positive buzz for ticket sales. I actually thought the information given by Murray in NY about Spezza was setting the table for an early announcement of a deal once the Kings finished off the Rangers.

Murray's history is to go early. If he has two or three solid bidders he knows how to get their best offer. Waiting won't make a lot of difference. I think it is done before draft week where they will try to put a positive spin on the new season.

Problem is that he may be powerless to change anything.

Only a few years ago Melnyk had a great run at the Breeders Cup. It was clear that his horses and breeding stock were the jewel and most loved part of his sporting interests. But, the racehorses and breeding stock are all going to auction. His OHL franchise has been sold.

I do not believe that Melnyk has very much financial freedom to initiate or change anything.

I don't think he has much of anything left.

Sold off his OHL team, his Horse stock, Ottawa is in a roster spending freeze, and Trimel stock has fallen off 80% since early 2012.

Not to mention his divorce.

Hopefully he gets forced to liquidate all assets to the market by his creditors, including the Senators.

This is what concerns me. That a player like Berglund will be the NHL player coming back. Do I think he is awful? No. But he is an RFA who was making around 3.2 mill before and may command a bit of a raise closer to 4 mill. And he is a centre. I thought part of the support to move Spezza was to give both Turris and Zibby more responsibility. Adding Berglund creates a log jam in that regard. Lastly, his production has been less than impressive since his 2010/2011 campaign. I dunno. I don't think he is a bad player, just not a guy I would centre a package coming back for Spezza for.

Had a chance meeting with a national sports media personality that was friends with the person I was sitting with and after a beer or two passed on what he has heard;

-Chicago wants Smith and Greening - offering Versteeg & Oduya and a pick
Ottawa wants Bickel, and a pick

4 offers for Spezza - all from the Western Conference

Two trades are done - waiting for final to end. Won't break them now fearing burning the source and pissing off the league.

Phaneuf trade is looking like a dump rather than a hockey trade.

SJ is negotiating hard for Brad Marchand.

Watch Philly!

He thinks draft weekend will be insane with moves.

Vague I know and most is what is known , but he stay didn't long enough to get any more beers in him LOL

An asset is an asset is an asset.

Look at the LA Kings down the middle. 4 real strong lines around 4 solid NHL centers.

If Ottawa acquires Berglund, their starting centers are likely Turris, Zibanejad, Berglund and Smith. I think Lazar makes the team and starts on the wing but is destined to play center. Stone, Hoffman and Peumple also get a chance for ice time.

Ottawa is just one hard forward away from being a very hard line up to play against.

At some point Ottawa is going to need to move some prospects (or regulars). They are starting to get a little overloaded with guys deserving a shot.

Watch Philly?

Pretty easy to guess what Hextall might want to do.

He wants to go big down the middle. He wants a stud Dman and a world class goalie.

Just don't think they have enough pieces to do substantial deals without hurting themselves long term.

Agreed, but Phily has never been afraid of making big moves.
Hextall may be more patient than crazy Holmgren, but let's not forget Snider's influence.

I could see the Flyers going hard for Stasny and then flipping Giroux for a top DMan (Subban). But that would drive both fan bases insane.

I tend to lean towards Winnipeg (Byfgulien/Kane) with the Schenn brothers going back , but unless Philly dumps or trades away $, it doesn't work cap wise.
