Does anyone know if they still have to pay the cap penalty.

If He does comeback, I cant see him playing in NJ. I would think he would be traded.

- ImThatGuy

I'm not sure on the cap penalty and I really doubt he signs anywhere else.

You lost me here... he doesn't have a contract right now, so he can sign anywhere outside of NA that he wants. The Devils would just retain his NHL rights until he's 27. He doesn't have to pass through waivers at any point.
- Tomahawk

He's not talking about contracts overseas

And we use the term "players" loosely.
So if Larsson does bolt does that mean Harrold stays?!

What do Devils fans think of Brunner one season later?
- houseofcards74

His contract is good and he seems to try hard but not impressed with his play.

His passing is average, he does not have much creativity and seems to hestitate around the net.

He would probably produce more on a different team as it appears most of his goals are off the rush.

Larsson to Tampa for a 1st, Namestnikov and Purcell?

Wonder if Larsson could be used to barter for the 1st overall. Florida, instead of getting Ekblad for his "growth" years, would be getting a d-man with three years experience who still has a high ceiling and make them a better team tomorrow rather than two years from now.

Brunner's been all right. He's a skilled player. Honestly, he still has a little bit of a higher ceiling that he hasn't hit... he could still churn out 60 points on a second line if his game improved. I think he gets much better next year.

They pay a recapture... 250k a year. They still paid the penalty for circumventing the cap if that's what you meant (which is why they draft 30th instead of 11th this year).

If he's not on contract, he'd probably be a UFA unless there's fine print rules I don't know about. But he highly respects the Devils organization and probably wants to play for them... unless catastrophe happens in the world, he'll be in Devils jersey again one day. It's just a matter of when.

Just saying if the Devils manage to lose Parise, Kovalchuk, Clarkson, and Larsson all for nothing in a span of 3 years I might need to take a year off or something

Not talking about himself as a player but what the organization, and fans would think.

Would they both welcome him back?

Kovy will not be coming back to the NHL until 2018 unless he sits out a year of professional (not just NHL) hockey or all thirty teams allow it.

Sitting out a year would be very unlikely but could happen which means you could see him at the start of the 2015-2016 season. Taking a year off could really impact his play tho as he would be that much older and removed from the game.

The latter will never happen cause Divisional opponents will vote against making NJ better.

Not after Clowe. One overpaid 3rd liner is enough thank you very much.

How as Larsson been jerked around? Overall, he has not played well in his 3 years in the Devils system.

Last yr, they gave him a chance with Greene and he could not handle playing against top competition. Last year, He was waiver exempt and they did the smart thing and sent him down.

Compare him to Merrill, who is less than a year older than Larsson. Merrill showed he could handle the responsibility and he was in the lineup.

You wouldn't take Clarkson for 2.5 a yr? I would not think that's a gross over payment

It's not very unlikely because of his knee injury he sustained in Sochi. He had knee surgery in Germany. http://sports.yahoo.com/b...y-in-sochi-153444615.html
what better time to sit out a year than now? The back issues in 2012, the knee now.. heal up, train hard, and come back 100%. A player of his elite skill isn't going to be off his game for more than a few weeks at most as far as being "removed from the game".

Point taken. That would still put him at a 2015-2016 return tho. Jagr came back from the KHL and was productive so the skills should definitely transfer.
