Hypothetical situation:

In the regular season, Team A and B are tied, with 1 minute remaining in regulation.

Team B is called for high sticking. 2 minute powerplay for Team A. With 15 seconds left, another penalty is called on Team B for a blatant high stick. So now, with 15 seconds left in regulation, Team A is playing at a 5-3 advantage. They do not score.

How does the overtime start? 1 minute of 5 on 3 play, then 45 seconds of 5-4, then the remaining OT is played 5v5?

Or is it 1:45 of 4-3 play to start the OT period, then play at 4v4?

we should. Also, I forgot about Dennis Seidenberg in that roster.
- SuperSchennBros

he turned the puck over in the neutral zone that directly lead to vinny's goal to open the scoring in game 6. he didn't see the ice much after that.

there would be a 2 man advantage at 5 on 3, then 4 on 3, and then 4 on 4 assuming no goal was scored. i think.

From the late 90s to the early 2000s, my dad would take old VHS tapes and tape the Flyers games. Even the regular season ones, because it was too late for me to stay up, and put the tape on the kitchen table for me to watch when I had time.

He just said to me "Watch the game last night asap" (referring to the Sens game)

So how does it "go" from 5 on 3 to 4 on 3? Does the play get blown dead as that first penalty expires?

This is definitely something you don't see every day, and honestly it just happened in my NHL 14 game and the OT started at 5 on 3 and I was like WAAAAAAAAAAT DOES NOT COMPUTE

I honestly don't know because I hardly remember

now that i think about this, it would likely go to a 5 on 4 until there was a whistle. then i think it would switch to 4 on 3 .

yes. 2 things were at play here. first was the havlat high stick cheap shot in the prior game between the two teams against recchi. the second was that the score was lopsided late in the game and the game started to get chippy. rob ray went after kapanen in the corner, and brashear (frank)ed him up. then everything else happened. all the while havlat sat in the box for some other silly penalty and never paid the piper for his transgression against recchi.

Of course.

Brashear was really good at (frank)ing people up.

Was Recchi hurt by that Havlat high stick?

yeah, it was really weak. i remember wanting blood in this rematch, but the flyers stormed out to a good lead and it never materialized until late.

brashear split him open. it was awesome.

i think recchi did get hurt ...but i don't recall the extent of the damage, and i'm pretty sure he was back for this game.

I really thought the Flyers got a steal at the time getting Mike Comrie. I think there was stretch in January where it was Gagne-Comrie-Justin Williams on a line and I just thought that was going to be their future.

I was sad to see Williams go but I was ok getting Markov in return. That was a great team.

- sulshawn

It was just a situation of needing quality defense and not being as high on youth as we are today.

Gagne, Williams, Sharp, Carter, Richards, Carcillo, Handzus, Seidenberg, Emery all with Cups since leaving Philly. Some long time vets like Recchi as well.

OT would start at 5 on 3, then 5 on 4, until penalty expired or first stoppage. If the stoppage happened before end of penalty, itd go to 4 on 3. If it was AFTER the teams returned to even strength, theyd play 5 on 5 until the stoppage, then it would go to 4on 4
