So signing him to a NHL contract basically assures him of at LEAST a fourth line roll. While I don't necessarily mind this signing... what does this mean for Laughton or Akeson? I was looking forward to seeing these guys next year but I suppose it wouldn't hurt Laughton to play in the Minors for a season. If I'm Akeson this move has me thinking about signing somewhere else don't you think? Another year leading the Phantoms in points while earning a call up for the last game of the season would seem pointless to me.

Do you agree or disagree with the points I made? Why avoid the topic of discussion and comment on other things that have nothing to do with the discussion?

Look at Phaneuf? Is he really a 7 mill player? You can argue maybe to the Leafs yes but to someone else no but based of the weak FA d market he wo have gotten paid so the leafs had to pay that to keep him. You also have to keep in mind the union wants guys to keep getting the best deal possible. They hate hometown discounts because then your affecting everyone else.

Only in a negative light, of course.

1) Why/how Hextall will be terrible
2) Our defense will never be any good
3) We'll screw up at the draft
4) Worst goal song of ever time.

- jmatchett383

5) It's all Rosehill's fault.
6) Why is Rinaldo playing?
7) How big of a cap hit does Timonen screw us with?
8) Who signed this deadbeat of a defenseman Grossmann?
9) B Schenn who wants him and in what position?

NOTE: I had to re-write this 5 times to get the true negativity and innuendos to a tolerable level. It's just not in my nature...

Phaneuf got an 8% raise, well within the growth of the cap-ceiling.

Stralman jumping from 1.7 to 5 is another story.

According to Cap Geek his contract is a two way deal worth 600K. So he can be sent down to the AHL without any effect on the Cap.

What could he have gotten as a Free Agent? Players who already have a high cap hit are going to get a lower percentage of a raise. MacDonald went from 550K to 5M. Niskanen had a cap hit of 2.3M this year. What's he going to go to?

Pebbles is old enough he could very easily move into the 13th forward position. But to be honest I think Hextall IS trying to improve our fourth line. And while this might keep Laughton down in the AHL a season I still think if Laughton comes into camp and blows their socks off he'll get his time with the big club and he won't be the one moved out of the line-up.
I'm perfectly fine with the Chief having a plethora of good options to build from.

Laughton is a center so I don't think it will affect him. He is most likely our 4th line center or maybe starting in AHL. Akeson is always going to have to prove his worth year after year. He just doesn't bring enough to the table. Based on the reports is he has NHL hands and speed and average build for NHLer, Akeson would really need to have a big camp to make the roster.

With no moves made I have about maybe 3 spots available and in the bottom six

5) None of our prospects should ever play in the NHL because they won't develop properly if they do.

Yes, I get the joke. The point is that your reply is personal towards the poster instead of what is supposed to be discussed, which is the opinion offered.

I think Akeson is going to get a shot, but definitely not a guarantee by any means. I agree, he's going to have to produce offensively at a significant rate to make the team.

I want to see what Alt has to show us, personally. I have a good feeling about him. Don't know why...just have for like the last season now

I like that new players such as Laughton, Akeson, Bellmare, Alt, Ghostibihere are going to create some competition for roster spots in camp. Flyers really need some lower salary players to complement the roster

So is this idea that Lecavalier has any trade value.

Precisely! Didn't Gervais give him some praise too? Can't remember...

Homer got this kid quite litrilly for nothing. Man wouldn't it be sweet if he sticks as an effective NHL player?

The same thing was said about Scott Gomez. He had a Cap hit of over 7M at the time. Not only was he traded, but the Rangers got McDonagh in the deal. Now I'm not expecting much of a return, but I believe he can be traded.
