A lot of the FA talk in Sabreland land has surrounded giving Ryan Callahan $7 mill to be Buffalo's captain....

But what if you could get Paul Stastny for less than that? Stastny is even younger, and brings more offensive upside.

Paul Stastny & Sam Reinhart would look very Krejci/Bergeron-esque to me.

If Patrick Sharp is available and would waive his modified NTC to come here, that would be my choice for the veteran leader. He'll be 33 in Dec and has 3 yrs left. IMO that fits the timeline for the rebuild and is a better option than signing Callahan to 6yrs 6+mil per.

Brought this up a week ago, would love to have him here but price might be a bit high. 2nd line centre seems to be a prime target for them so i guess something around Hodgson+ but there will be a lot of bidders for him if he's actually available. Don't want to get in the middle of a bidding war this early in a rebuild.

I like Sharp too, but I'm not sure that his production in Buffalo would be significantly better than Hodgson's.

For whatever reason, Sharpe was a no show in the playoffs this year. And it's conceivable that much of his production may be attributed to playing with guys like Towes, Kane, & Hossa.

Sure he'd quickly become the best offensive player on the Sabres, but he's probably more of a "quick fix" than a "long term solution". 3 years from now, Hodgson is likely the superior talent.

Sharpe is good, but I'm not sure he fits our timeline.

The production may very well cancel each other out between Hodgson and Sharp but Sharp's a better character guy to have in your line up and he plays a much better two way game.

I wouldn't say it's a quick fix if Hodgson isn't part of the future. If they draft Reinhart this year it's probably a decent move. But I think once a bidding war starts his price will be too rich to be worth it for us.

All this Leino catharsis! If you admire the Wings talent evaluation, you should have followed our lead on that one. Now...what am I offered for Weiss as a floor play?

I'm not so sure the Sabres have much interest in aquiring players over the age of 28.

I think you've got it backwards, you're supposed to be taking our elder-statesmen, not the other way around.

Guys like Ablicator, Tatar, & Nyquist, are the names you should be dropping.

I'll say Ablicator. Banety sounds like and autocorrect (frank) up (like you missed an e and it goes from banett to banety for some reason) Ablicator is just lolz

What is this a book report or the Internet? Chalk it up to auto correct & tiny mobile phone keyboards.

LoL, some of you bookworms out there need to get off your high horses.

Anyway...

I don't want any old salary dumps unless it includes draft picks. Wouldn't mind going after Tatar or Pulkkinen.
