Also, in the (limited) time Read has spent with Giroux, there hasn't been much production. Not sure I'd call Read a first-line sniper. Especially when he has a fantastic fit with Couturier.

Splitting up Read and Coots would be painful but I think it's worth a shot at this point

Serious looking way ahead question:

In the event that LA buys Richards out, would you take him back at $4M?

I would, but where does he fit in? It's like signing VL last summer.

I'd keep them together to start and see how things go. I just think Jake needs to fire the puck more often. Both he and Giroux do.

We all have our favorite line combinations. Coaches will make changes throughout the season anyway. I don't think there was anyone who predicted the Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds line would have much success. They ended being one of our best during their brief time together.

Ultimately, I think the team just needs better forwards. VL did not fit and replacing him with a two-way 2nd/3rd line player will help. Getting Laughton and Raffl to play on the 4th line will probably make them better too.

I think it's less about creating the perfect combos and more about giving the team good depth. The Rangers don't really have a top line. They just roll 4 strong, two-way lines.

If you sign Richards, it gives you flexibility. He's still young enough that he can be part of your nucleus going forward. You'd have to move Vinny, for sure. But it also allows you to consider moving B Schenn, or playing him at wing with Richards as a 2C (which I think he could still be).

Richards wouldn't want to come back to Philly imo.

Yeah, but I think the media wore on him in Philly. He just blends in out there in LA LA land. I think he would rather avoid the circus that would be him coming back to the Flyers.

Center is the last place where the Flyers need help! It's all about the blueline. Must upgrade substantially to have a chance of competing.

If he came back to Philly, he wouldn't be the spotlight guy (after his initial return). It's no longer his team.

VL Part 2. No thanks.

What are the odds that Coburn is the # 1 dman on the team this upcoming season? Please say remote.

How many teams in the NHL have at least one dman better than Coburn 20+

He wouldn't need to address the media as much. He wouldn't be the captain so there'd be less to deal with.

The problem is like you stated - where does he fit in?

At this point, he's a 3rd line center, but what do you do with Coots who is not a 2C at this point or a 4C? Richards or Cooter would have to play 2C, not ideal for either, and would also mean moving BSchenn out or to the wing.

It would just be more lineup problems.

I'd say around 20. It depends on how good you think Coburn is. I think there are about 17 that aren't debatable.

I hope the season ends tonight so I can bathe in the tears of Ranger fans and heartily laugh while I see the players' disappointed faces during the handshake line.

Yep. They don't need Richards. I want Couturier to start developing his offensive game. Constantly playing against other teams top lines is stunting his development imo,

I'm really interested in seeing how Hextall attacks fixing the blueline. Needs a lot of work.
