Prepare the uproar.

Nutter never understood this whole thing with dogs. Having an animal and walking it around with a leash tied to its neck.

Call me crazy. Seems to be a 'fad' these days.

You don't want a pet, just like some people don't want children. Who cares. You do you.

Why do you think this will cause an uproar?

That Claude Lapierre jersey is absurdly awesome and makes me wish I had a few bucks to spend on something like that.

This is just sad how many people seem to think this. Although now HBO has Martin by the short hairs. He has to finish the books. I hope the pressure doesn't ruin them.

My sister, who reads very slowly, so it's crazy, has read all the books. Now she's annoyed because she think JRRM doesn't take sufficiently good care of himself (she's a dr and thinks he looks like he's not healthy) and she's afraid he won't finish before he dies. She's also annoyed at how little has been resolved in spite of all that's happened. I have no interest in reading them. But I'm enjoying the Cliff's Notes (TV) version.

Because he thinks having a pet is a fad "these days?" We wonder at his historic perspective.

That point about little resolution would destroy the books for me, personally.

If I could put a child in a cage for 6 - 8 hours a day I might be more interested in having one. Alas, that might get me put in jail. I'll stick with my dog who adores me and will never wreck the car.

Great analysis! Honestly, as a leafs fan this kinda make me depressed. We are much deeper, younger, stronger and quicker than the Rangers. We could have easily gotten past the Habs and the cup would've been a real posibility vs LA. Next year I think the cup will be ours! Report this comment!

He does seem to have the Robert Jordan curse, doesn't he?
To be honest I haven't seen the show at all. I'm glad the books are getting acclaim because the first three books of the series are just that good. What's funny is there are other authors just as good. I hope the series gets people picking up books. But I won't hold my breath.

My all time favorite movie was based on a book that, frankly, wasn't that great.

"The Godfather" movie blows away the book.

But in most instances, yes, I agree with you about reading the book.

I imagine he planned to finish them regardless...that or die.

Please don't die before you wrap up the story. 2 more books, although I have no idea how you're going to do that, George, while introducing new plot lines and characters instead of finishing up what's already on your damn plate!

I certainly will be getting a dog. Preferably 2 (maybe not at once but at some point...whatever happens)

Pup #1 will be named Vera. Vera is both a Pink Floyd song and a name featured in the Beatles' When I'm 64. Paul sings "Grandchildren on your knee...Vera, Chuck & Dave". So boom. One name, to honor 2 of my favorite bands.

Pup #2 will be a boy dog named Lola

The better half has already ok'd both!

If you read his post in Abe Simpson's voice, it made perfect sense.

That's very specific! I have about 10 names floating in my brain and when I meet the dog one or two usually float to the surface. It has to pass a couple of tests:
1. Can I make a smart butt comment about the name and if so am I ok with hearing it? My friends are all a-holes.
2. Can I scream it down the street at the top of my lungs?
3. Does it fit the personality of the dog?

I don't make a final decision for a few days until I've gotten to know them a bit personality wise. Sometimes it's obvious - other times it's tough!
I've had a Malkuth, Aleister, Raelen, Corbyn, and Badger.

I refuse to use that bridge. It's extortion via convenience.

I use it all the time because the amount of gas it would take to go around would exceed the amount I pay to use it.

Around the house my dogs don't do collars and leashes. Those are so they don't get in trouble away from home.

I think they've had 4 bribes passed between officials just in the time it took me to write this post.

That said, I'm actually looking forward to the World Cup and I don't care all that much about soccer.

The more articles I read about World Cup, however, and the more I come to the opinion that the sport seems to do SO MUCH to distance itself from other sports in the US in many ways, that I wonder if it will ever be as popular here as elsewhere.

- johndewar

It's actually growing in popularity. I just don't see it becoming very popular until they join/form more competitive leagues and field the better talent.

The MLS sells out most games, but they lack the star power. I can name maybe 5 MLS players and dozens of European players. It's difficult to gain popularity when your product is made up of 2nd rate talent or older players in the twilight of their careers.

My Wife and I have one beautiful mix that we adopted from a kill shelter. I want to adopt another, but my Wife thinks I am crazy. I told her it would be perfect timing. New baby in December, new pup in December. They would be best buds.

The bigger problem is that we (as in the USA) have not produced true stars. Dont feed me the Landon Donavon line.
