So Ek has a 50% possibility of Steve Ott coming to the Flyers in his rumor chart? What do you guys think? Likely? Not likely?
Hextall is such an unknown!

I could possibly see him come to the Flyers. They're going to need a 4th line center and if Hextall is adamant about not rushing younger players, he'll need a veteran type player to fill this role.

For the excuse me? Meh, I refuse to let the Rangers winning or losing impact my day. That and I wanted to post something in the thread so it'd show in my shortcuts. I just targeted you!

Is Mike Richards a #1 center, now? Saying lack of patience was an issue with him misses the mark, I think. (I know you said rhetorical.)

Carter? Yes. Patience would have been nice. But I wonder what he'd have been without Richards here if they'd done only the one deal? He was a wraith in Columbus while moping. LA and whoever led the charge there was good for him. And it is said that winning the cup (he was less key there two years ago) gave him new focus and resulted in physical and emotional growth since. Do we assume that would not have happened without a cup here?

You could easily argue that Briere was one of the top three instead of Carter that year. EASILY...

I would much rather have a fringe NHL player who excels on defense like an Adam Hall. That way, if Laughton wins the job, you don't have to hold him back because you're paying a 4th line player $2.5M for 3 years.

It's nice when you have Rangers fans around the office. I don't even have to say anything. I walked into the breakroom and just smiled.

"Thanks for not texting me." was all I got.

In the regular season, Carter was a better player than Briere. Briere was better in the playoffs.

To me, the core four of that generation was Timo, Pronger, Carter and Richards. They were relied upon to do the heavy lifting. They saw the tough match ups, played on the pk and still produced a lot of offense.

Briere scored and was a clutch player in the playoffs, but he didn't have to handle the difficult match ups.

Yeah, he was only on the first line all season while they tried to fit Carter in somehow.

I actually agree with what you're saying, but I have an issue with Carter being listed in your best 3 guys on the 2010 Flyers. If you're talking the whole season, maybe, but for the postseason he wasn't even close to being top 3 (and yes, I'm aware he missed time with a broken foot).

My top 3 of the 2010 postseason- Pronger, Briere, Richards. I would have Leino, Kimmo, Gagne, Coburn, Carle, and Hartnell ahead of Carter for that Cup run as well.

You left off Giroux and he had 21 points in 23 games.

During the 4 years they played together, Carter had 264 points and Briere had 218 points. Carter was the much better defensive player too.

MB posted this on the last blog:

The local media sure is pushing the ex Flyer angle today.

Hey lets undo the trades. And you tell me which team is still playing for a cup and which one doesn't make the playoffs?

I'm positive Richards 10 goals would have been much better for us than Simmonds 29 and Schenn's 20.

Ill say it here, if you complain about Richard's and Carter's success as if it has anything to do with the Flyers NOT being successful, you are a whiney female dog and need to be slapped. You know nothing about hockey, and need to go follow water polo and watch a Downton Abbey marathon.

I actually love waterpolo

If Hextall is going to mirror his time in LA, he's almost going to put a bigger preimium winning the Calder Cup than the Stanley cup next year. I have a feeling he's going to look at building the Phantoms into a team with a winning Atmosphere to give confidence and growth to Ghost, Hagg, Alt, and Laughton.

One of the things he stated was that Homer already had a good team put together and with it's makeup, the only real changes that could be easily made would be signing Schenn and moving Vinnie to bring in cap space to actually make moves. Barring that, a small move for a more proven bottom 6 guy could be in the cards.

I think we'll see more or less the same Flyers roster next year, and they'll make the playoffs, maybe do some damage. But Hextal's big contribution will be telling the young players that if they think they can play for the big club, they have to conquer the AHL first.
