I love Snider's passion. I just wish that the passion came with a bit more patience.

I also don't think the Flyers are that far away. They need pieces, for sure, but they are not one of the dregs of the league in need of a massive retooling.

- Jsaquella

Definitely not. Another top 6 forward, a #2 dman (to pair with Coburn, our other #2/3 dman), and the Flyers are in the heart of the playoff talk instead of on the fringe.

The lack of patience is predicated because of lack of player development before the last two years. They didn't even have prospects to give up in trades to get established average d-men (so to acquire they had to give away draft picks).

I have no problem with trying to win the Stanley Cup each year. The root problem is the inability to effectively draft on a yearly basis to acquire talent which can be used as a tradable asset or offer an entry level contract on the big club.

Part of that inability to draft is because often they lack the picks to do a good job drafting.

Since 2009, they have made a pick in round two twice, and those came in the last two drafts (Anthony Stolarz & Robert Hagg). Twice since 2009 they didn't even make a selection before the 80th pick overall.

However, even prior to that, they often traded away picks for rentals and short term fixes:

Since the year 2000, the Flyers have made six selections in the second round and three of those came in 2006. When you spend 14 years of relying on third round or later picks to develop, you're not going to have a very deep system. The saving grace has been their round one picks and identifying good undrafted players that have stepped in and helped.

I think they already have that other top 6 forward. Matt Read. Guy is a two time 20 goal scorer playing a primarily defensive role with limited PP time. I think if elevated to the first or second line, he could be a very dangerous guy.

So with the current lineup, who would be on your top 2 lines?

12-14-42 on 3rd line could work. 4th gets tricky.

Edit: you think splitting Jake and G will get us 2 solid lines?

Marc Bergevin ruined leClair on a trip from behind that he rode him and sent him to the boards thanksgiving eve 2003. I was there and saw it happen in Pissburgh.
Enough reason for the earth to open up and swallow that team and Bergevin wherever he is.

I was a joint STH for a few years and was at game 2 of the finals in 80.
What a team

I think Holmgren had a few goals in that game with a horribly torn up knee.
He was one of the first US born players to have 30 goals playing with Kenny Linseman that year, if my memory is correct

3 illegal goals for the Isles in game 6 and they called penalties on Flyers players playing with broken arms durint the playoffs. They wanted a NY Metro area team to win, I made a gentlemens bet with someone the Flyers would not be allowed to win the Cup because of marketing reasons in 1980
My beliefs are well founded with history

The isles were a dynasty, but the league handed them the first one

- Steelmanpa

if the flyers managed to win game 6, i say there's no way they'd have lost at home for game 7. not that season.

The more I compare JvR and Voracek, the more I think JvR would be a much better fit with Giroux then Voracek.

i was angry on the ice. my glove was (frank)ing poop tonight. there was nothing about the scf for me to get angry about.

i'm also angry right now because my 3 year old son is screaming on my bed for no reason. i haven't had an uninterrupted night of sleep in almost 6 months. if it's not him, and it ususally isn't, it's the other one. they refuse to sleep through the night now and there's no solution for keeping them in their room without locking the door which would only lead to more crying. i can't take it anymore.
