Bill,

Do you think there would be any interest in a guy like Marchand. i read a lot about him being possibly moved by the Bruins. Not sure if there is a deal but seems like a good fit in the way they saw Downie fitting in on the line with Couturier and Read.

Why would the Bruins trade him? He's a very good player who is under contract at $4.5M for the next 4 years.

From the things I have read it is because they have to sign guys like Krug, Bartowski, Soderburg, Boychuk, Reilly smith.

Supposedly Bettman is saying this is the best season on record... funny thing is you know the minute the CBA expires, the owners will go right back to crying poor again, lol.

i dont think there is much more to negotiate its 50/50 now. i think that was the major sticking point during the lockout.

Boychuk is signed through next year. They may need to give bridge contracts to the younger guys instead of signing them long term.

I just don't see them moving Marchand. He's an integral part of their success. I think they'd rather move Eriksson of Boychuk (assuming Seidenberg is back healthy).

They can utilize Savard's LTIR once the season starts too.

I got you. So with Palat signing will that set a mark for Schenn? I didn't see the cap hit number though.

Edzo: Williams hooked Ryan McDonagh to the ice just moments before and the refs ignored it. The Rangers got hosed here!
- Jsaquella

the crying on the non-interference call was just epic.

and if you watch the (frank)ing replay, it's clear as day that simultaneous contact is what directed king into the crease. mcdunnuh turned and engaged him directly. i don't understand why rangers fans don't see or understand this simple fact.

That second round of the 2006 draft just sticks in my mind to this day -- the Flyers took a shot on a speedy North American defenseman, a European forward with some size who had played in North America, and a Russian defenseman with a sturdy frame...and got next to nothing out of it.

They did it right -- they took two defensemen, one with projectable NHL speed, and a forward with size and skating ability. And none of them could efffing play.

If I was Paul Holmgren, looking at that poop, I'd be trading second-round picks too.

Palat and Johnson are very comparable to Schenn at ES... if the 2nd PP-unit wasn't completely inept, and if his teammates could shoot better than 8% at ES (Johnson's mates: 9%, Palat's mates: 10%, with each % equaling about 5-6 goals), he would have identical/superior numbers to them... at least that's what I'd be saying if I were Schenn's agent.

The Rangers are discovering that their standard strategy, IE running the goalie and knee on knee hits, is not having the desired effect.

Ha! Yeah. This last lockout was about nothing more than the split, and the league wanted some term limits on contracts and to end back-diving. Nothing more -- the same teams that are struggling financially will continue to do so, until viable relocation is agreed upon.

Or, they could adopt a system of revenue sharing that actually addresses the issue of small markets that can't generate the kind of money that teams like the Flyers, Rangers, Leafs and Red Wings can.

I think Palat is a significantly better player than Schenn at this stage of their careers. Palat is a bonafide top line talent. Schenn hasn't even shown the consistency of being a 2nd line talent.

2006 was a poop draft in general... you can't really complain about the way it shook out for the Flyers though... that guy from Gatineau turned out ok.

And damn, forget just getting 1 impact player from that draft... the Bruins got 3 (Kessel, Lucic, Marchand)... w/o that draft, they're still a poop team.

Look at the QoC between the two though. Only St. Louis saw tougher QoC than Palat on the Lightning this year.
